On our way while visiting the beautiful city of Milan, Italy, we luckily stumbled upon Dogana. This was the fourth "sit down" meal we had since arriving in Milan on a three city tour of Italy.
Let me start off by saying, from all the other restaurants we visited in Italy, before and after - Dogana stands out as the best, and heres why:
Its situated near the Duomo, as I said we just happened to walk by it after sightseeing the Duomo, needless to say we needed not only food, but also a comfortable restaurant to stretch out in - and Dogana had just that. Ample indoor, terrace and outdoor seating was extremely clean and welcoming. The interior was very well designed and screamed classic Italian while yelling modern allure.
The menu - filled with classic Italian fare, exactly what you would hope to find in a place like this. Two pages of various pizzas, accompanied by more pages of the traditional items made sure my party and I were easily going to get what we wanted.
The food - spot on, perfect portions, great presentation and very good quality. Foodwise, this was the best restaurant we had visited throughout the entire trip. Also, surprisingly the pricing was at a point where I had to double check it. Its rare to get what Dogana was offering at that price point so I had to make sure.
The service - the only thing missing was the white gloves! Awesome and attentive staff in my opinion, really put Dogana over the top. They were all in tune, working as a unit to make sure everything went off without a hitch. Warm and welcoming, their combined efforts made our party (12) feel like we were not just tourists visiting a city, however more like a family getting together for a night out.
Dogana was so impressive we made sure to visit again before we left Milan, and I will say if you find yourself walking by the Duomo, stop in and take in all of the above in...
Read moreI recently visited Dogana Restaurant and unfortunately, I had an incredibly disappointing experience. It pains me to write a negative review, but I feel it is important to share my honest feedback.
Firstly, upon arrival, all the tables outside were occupied. When I politely asked the waitress if we could sit outside, the response I received was rather rude. He simply stated that they were full and suggested that I myself go and ask the customers directly about when they leave! This lack of professionalism and disregard for customer service was quite off-putting.
Furthermore, the quality of the drinks and food left much to be desired. I ordered an Aperol Spritz, only to find that it was primarily filled with ice and lacked the refreshing taste I expected. The Carbonara and Pesto pasta dishes we ordered were ok. The portions were small, and the flavors were ok.
To top it off, we decided to give their Tiramisu a try, but it was a complete letdown. As shown in the attached picture, it was visibly smashed and did not look appetizing at all. This further highlighted the overall lack of attention to detail and care in the kitchen.
Lastly, when we requested to pay by credit card, we were met with another inconvenience. Unlike the customers near our table who were able to pay by credit card at their table, we were told to go inside and pay. This inconsistency in service added to the frustration and made us feel unwelcome.
Overall, my experience at Dogana Restaurant was far from satisfactory. The poor service, subpar food and drink quality, along with the lack of attention to customer convenience, left a lasting negative impression. I hope that the management takes these points into consideration and makes the necessary improvements to ensure a better dining experience for...
Read moreOur experience at Ristorante Pizzeria Dogana today was terrible. We were a group of five (three adults and two children), and it was a disaster from start to finish.
The owner initially greeted us in fluent English, but his attitude quickly became rude and unprofessional.
We ordered two cotolette alla Milanesa, two pizzas, one burger, and a chicken soup as a starter. Here’s what happened:
The pizzas arrived after 45 minutes. Another 20 minutes later, one cotoletta and the burger were served.
Despite asking several times, the chicken soup, which was supposed to be a starter, only arrived after everyone else’s main courses. I also had to ask three times for a spoon.
The soup itself was awful—just chicken water with random vegetables like beans, zucchini, and peas. It tasted terrible, and I only managed to eat the chicken. My main course, the cotoletta, was brought immediately after the soup, forcing me to leave it on the side until I finished the soup.
The pizzas were average, the burger was forgettable, and the cotolette alla Milanesa were extremely oily and raw. When we complained to the owner about the raw meat, he pretended not to understand English, saying "Italian, Italian," and walked away.
The table next to us also seemed unhappy. One lady ordered the cotoletta alla Milanesa and didn’t eat it because it was raw, while the other had pasta, which she barely touched.
To top it all off, we had to ask five times for a bottle of water before it was finally brought to us.
The service was rude and unprofessional, and the food was awful. We will never return, and I recommend avoiding this place...
