Review of Taverna Disastro, Milan
Oh, Osteria Disastro, where do I even begin? Nestled in the heart of Milan, this place promised a culinary journey through Italy but delivered more of a... let's call it an 'adventure' in dining.
Firstly, the pesto. Now, I'm no pesto connoisseur, but when it arrives at your table colder than an ex's heart, you know something's amiss. It wasn't just cool; it was as if it had been prepped in the Arctic. The basil, usually vibrant and lively, seemed to have given up the ghost.
Then, there was the pizza. The cheese, oh the cheese! It had the texture and appeal of something you'd find at the back of your fridge, forgotten since the last millennium. It wasn't melted; it was more like it had been introduced to the concept of heat but decided against participating.
Now, about the service. Our server, let's just say he was... uniquely Milanese in his approach. The service was as warm as the pesto was cold. There was a certain aloofness, a disdain almost, like we were interrupting his very important task of... well, I'm not sure what. And the tip? Ah, the classic Milanese move of leaving a pen and a blank line on the bill. It wasn't a request for a tip; it was more of a silent, awkward standoff. "You will tip me," the pen seemed to whisper, "or face my silent judgment."
In summary, Taverna Disastro managed to blend cold pesto, questionable cheese, and frosty service into one memorable, albeit not in a good way, dining experience. If you're in Milan for authentic Italian cuisine, perhaps give this place a miss unless you're in the mood for a culinary...
Read moreThe service was really great, the man who served us had a great and friendly attitude, even joked with us and gave some recommendations for dinner, at the end he also brought us some courtesy limoncello shots. In terms of the food, I was honestly a little bit disappointed. To begin with we ordered a caprese pizza as a starter for all of us (4 adults) which was really delicious and I would totally recommend. We then had as main dishes, a grilled beef steak with champignions which I asked at medium rare and then actually received it as a 3/4 to well done; that was really what brought me down. The other main dishes were a breaded veal with risotto to the Milanese style; the risotto was kinda disappointing with the rice not that well cooked and the breaded veal kinda dry. The carbonara pasta was quite smaller in portion than we imagined. We ordered two bottles of Rosé as well which made the total bill more expensive than what it would have been without them. I would recommend, if you still want to go there, the atmosphere is worth it and you could just stick to ordering...
Read moreWell this is a mistake we will never make again. We thought this was a cute nice restaurant in an alley Milan, sadly this was not the case. It is the classical tourist trap, no tap water available, high prices for just basic drinks. We were greeted by a nice gentlemen, but after getting the menu we had to wait quite a while with menu's closed before someone came to take our order. I orderd an apple Juice (€5,-) and received Orange. The dishes were not served together and my friend got his pasta before i got my pizza. Nobody came to check on us or ask if everying was alright and when we wanted to pay the server told us we could write down how much we wanted to tip on the receipt, keep in mind we already paid 3.50 per person for just sitting there. After paying we werent thanked or wished a good night, dispite our attempt to make some contact with the servers, he just walked off. The food was good though, although the crust of the pizza was a bit too thick.
