After a long day of tours in Milan, we went there for food and beer since there were high reviews and open on Sunday as we went back towards our hotel. Walked in just before 3pm and were told the kitchen was closing so no food was available. We sat down at the bar and had a beer and it was a very good IPA! Other people walked in who were obviously frequent locals and they were served with larger steins of beers and the bartenders joined them drinking beers while we were just completely ignored. Then the "locals" had immediate beer refills yet we were basically invisible to them for quite a while even though we were sitting in the small bar counter area of about 8 seats total. I don't see how It was possible for us not to be noticed to get a second beer since there were only about 10 people total in the pub! Even though they had English signs saying they are "the friends" - If you are a foreigner thinking it is like an English pub and friendly - IT"S NOT!!! From our experience: not welcoming, definitely not "the friends" - unless apparently you are a frequent local Milan resident. Since we couldn't get food here, we ended up going around the corner to the Amami pizzeria and we had a wonderful welcoming and friendly experience...
Read moreFor a restaurant called Friends’ pub, I was sure disappointed with our hosts’ friendliness. We asked to be seated to watch the game but ended up straining our necks to watch. If you’re there for sports, I wouldn't recommend it. There is little sports atmosphere.
As tourists, we had our own water bottles, but the manager told us bluntly we couldn’t use them. Respecting his word, we stopped. When we asked for tap water, we were given one cup of water and faced hostility when requesting another. This soured our evening.
The nachos were soggy and overloaded with sour cream, though the veggie burger was decent. On our way out, the manager continued to lecture us about not buying drinks.
While the complimentary beer was a nice gesture, the overall experience was unpleasant. I won't be returning to Friends...
Read moreAfter traveling Italy for a month, I felt the need for a pint, watch a football on the tele and some pub grub. I found exactly what alI wanted and so much more! For the middle of Milan they had a good tap selection and not just the typical few found in most places passing as Irish or UK pubs. The match was on and a few folks were there to watch. I was not expecting the food quality. I had a Stilton, Bacon, onion burger which was surprisingly large and magnificent. The chips/frues reminded me of a very good Irish chip! My companion had the smoked salmon salad and again, it was large, fresh and surprisingly flavourful. A few pints were enjoyed, the conversations were jovial, though in my opinion the wrong team lost the match. I highly recommend this pub that certainly luves...
