Absolutely horrible! We were staying near Garibaldi station and decided to eat some pasta dinner. We sat down and after receiving the menu, we tried to get the wait staff's attention for around 10-15 minutes but got ignored because they were too busy laughing and chatting with friends and other waiters(the restaurant was completely full, so unprofessional). It got to the point I had to demand one of the waiters to let us order since no one even bothered to check on us the whole time we were sitting there as we were making eye contact with pretty much every waiter. We assumed that since the reviews are pretty high, maybe the food will be better and change our experience, but we were soo wrong! We ordered the Bufala cheese with cherry tomatoes and rockat leaves for starters, Carbonara pasta and pasta with potato, provola and pancetta. The Bufala cheese was ok , although it was a little dry and definitely not the best we had in Napoli, the cherry tomatoes were fresh. The Carbonara pasta was horrible, bland with no salt , barely any bacon and they made the sauce wrong because it eventually became an omelette and not the creamy sauce that you would usually expect, definitely the worst Carbonara of my life, just some Pasta with omelette and a few small pieces of bacon and without any salt or seasoning The pasta with the potato was edible and the concept was nice but it was really heavy to eat. For the whole meal, we got ignored from nearly every waiter except from one that just asked if we are ok and then left immediately. the only time he returned is to tell us that the bill does not include service(what service??). They didn't even bother to offer drinks, coffee , deserts, nothing. We were really hungry and it was late so we unfortunately chose to stay because we hoped it would get better, but we were so surprised by the attitude towards the clients ,because until this experience we had only really friendly wait staff in other restaurants that we also happily and generously tipped since we really felt that we received an outstanding service every single time(we received a better service in freaking Sephora!). Long story short , definitely do not recommend, do not let the good reviews fool you , the food might be not good and you might be ignored by the waiters.

With 4.2 stars, nearly 2000 reviews... I had high hopes... There were many bad warning signs.

1- restaurant was empty at 19:00 Friday

2- group of waitors chatting away at front entrance, looking to kill time.

3- we stood in front to be seated and it took a few moment until the waitors acknowledged us, since they were busy talking. At the table, there was no greeting, no smile, no communication, but an automatic hand over of English menu.

4 - waitors were looking bored standing in the corner watching customers, which made us uncomfortable

5- the bruschette's bread was so stale and hard, it was extremely hard to bite or cut with knife and fork

6- red wine was chilled and came out of fridge. Came with some flies already in it.

7- my seafood pasta (paccheri mare e monte) smelled so fishy on arrival. Zucchini half melted. Mussels smelled and tasted spoiled. Ingredients were not fresh, I couldn't finish the dish. Pasta was nice and aldente but with fishy smell overwhelming, the entire dish was ruined.

8- friend's gnocchi sauce tasted like it was out of can, with few added ingredients. Gnocchi overcooked, he only ate 3 pieces and left the rest.

9- when I wanted to pay, a waitor told me to go in and tell at cashier my table number to pay. I told my table number to who seem like the manager or owner woman, who seemed irritated at me. speaking in Italian, shouted at the waitor and the waitor told her the number in Italian. (I understood this much, but she came out quite rude without any attempt to try and communicate with me even if I knew only little Italian, leaving me standing there while) I was charged mysterious cover charge without consent.

10- the cooks and pizza guys behind counter stood around nothing to do, with mouth full of food shouting across Dining room.

TL;DR: I strongly recommend international travelers AVOID this restaurant.

I’ve had three dining experiences at Attanasio. The first one was a few years ago — the food and service were great back then. More recently, I got pizza for take-away, which was smooth and tasty.

Unfortunately, my third visit was terrible.

First, while the waitresses were attentive, their attitude was cold and unfriendly — well below average, even worse than what you'd expect at a fast-food chain.

Second, the food was just okay. Edible, but not enjoyable or memorable in any way.

Third, we encountered a frustrating payment issue. The restaurant's card machine indicated that the transaction had failed, yet my banking app showed that the payment had gone through. Despite this, the staff insisted I pay again and told me to come back the next day if there turned out to be a problem. I asked to first double-check with my bank to avoid being charged twice, but they repeatedly ignored my request and continued pressuring me to pay again. It was clear they were more interested in shifting the risk onto the customer than in finding a fair solution. The situation was further complicated by the fact that the owner didn’t speak any English. Fortunately, one waiter — the only reasonable person there — eventually stepped in to help. After several tense minutes, the banking system updated and confirmed that the payment had indeed failed. I immediately paid again, and the helpful waiter kindly offered us a free limoncello.

In the end, the poor service and payment mishandling made for a very unpleasant experience. I suspect language barriers played a role in the miscommunication, so if you speak Italian, you might avoid some of these issues. But if not, like me, I’d suggest you SKIP this place. The food is average at best, the service questionable (as other recent reviews have pointed out), and there are plenty of better restaurants in the area.
