I never write bad reviews because I typically have good experiences. I was going to go to Da Donato just down the street but I’d had my fill of tourists for the day and didn’t want to sit with a bunch of people trying to re-live Eat, Pray, Love...so I saw “Avellinese” and decided to stop in...since my grandparents are from Avellino. Well, when I told that to the sour old man he didn’t even seem to care and just pegged me as a stupid tourist. The food is all sitting out (which sometimes is typical and acceptable—not something Americans are used to but it’s common in Italy) but it was uncovered, and sitting out when it was nearly 100 degrees. The menu didn’t have a single thing on it that was a typical Neapolitan dish much less anything from avellino with a couple of exceptions. The beer mug was filthy with dark specks (not beer sediment) in the bottom. I wondered why I was the only one there but it started to fill up after I sat down. When I ordered, the guy kept saying “spaghetti bolognese? Spaghetti bolognese?” Which I took as his way of insinuating that he assumed I’d eat any garbage he put in front of me...this isn’t bologna and the bolognese use tagliatelle, not spaghetti. Now, I know in Naples it’s possible to find this, but the ragù is different. So he suggested spaghetti with mushrooms. Everyone including the table full of Milanese tourist girls guzzling the awful wine were served before me, as well as the table next to me whose order was messed up multiple times. Finally my gross trough of WAY too much spaghetti with canned sauce and CANNED MUSHROOMS was tossed on the table at the same time as my chicken cutlet with dark brown old grease dripping off of it. One bite of the spaghetti and I asked for the check. I was willing to pay even though I didn’t eat, but then he said I could t pay with a card...which is total nonsense—it’s a tourist trap right near the train station and he is just tying to avoid paying the tax, which is common here and I’m happy to help with if you’re not trying to swindle me in the process. He tries giving me complicated directions to a bank, but I just left. Don’t bother. As the locals at the table next to me said, “next time, go...
Read moreI will give zero star for the food actually. The food was awful. I ordered risotto and my mum ordered fish with spaghetti. Originally, my mum would like to order salmon pasta with white sauce. She felt like to have salmon pasta white sauce tonight. I found a photo of salmon pasta white sauce on their restaurant(google map). This was why I chose the restaurant. I showed the photo to the staff(an old man). He said salmon was out of stock, if we were ok with other fish. We said yes. Finally he delivered a fish pasta with red sauce. We didn't expect it would be red sauce because the photo I showed him was with white sauce. We didn't expect the sauce will be different from the photo. My mum was a bit disappointed. After we both tried our dishes, it was a big disappointed. Bad quality of the spaghetti and risotto. The sauce tasted really bad. The breads were not fresh, hard and dry. Only the mushrooms in my risotto was ok. If you ordered seafood, it might be better. My mum like the decorations of the restaurant. The service was not bad. Only the man didn't smile, but he did look after the customers. The lady smile to me when she was clearing my table. Toilet didn't has a lock. Not...
Read moreLast Wednesday night, October 22, when we could not get into an already full restaurant across the street from Trattoria Avellinese (a.k.a.Ristorante Avellinese), we decided to go here. Even though this restaurant does not have pizza on the menu, which is what we wanted before leaving Naples the next morning, evening else was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed their pastas with bolognese style sauce and the Chicken Milano, which was expertly prepared. There are many items on the menu in which to consider. We had a side of broccoli and eggplant parmesan, as well. The preparation for the eggplant parm is a little different from the way we do it here at home. It's not breaded and the skin is left on. It was very tasty, nonetheless. The other thing we didn't like in the space, itself, is similar to a great many restaurants in Italy. The lighting is bright. It would be great if the establishments would dim down the lighting and warm the places up a little. Other than that, I can really recommend...
