Il Piastrato — Restaurant in Naples

I had little time for dinner - I had put some clothes to wash at the laundry next door. I was worried at first because it's located very close to the main train station of Naples, and usually restaurants around train stations are pretty bad and expensive. It was the total opposite!

I ordered a carpaccio with truffles and some eggplant alla parmigiana. The carpaccio was amazing. The truffles were very fragrant. The meat was delicious. It was served with some lettuce leaves. It was fresh. Beautiful! The eggplant parmigiana was equally as good. It was nice and cheesy. Delicious.

Services was really fast. The waiter was very nice and very efficient.

What a find so close to the Centrale station! I don’t generally think of good restaurants and train stations as neighbors, but once again, Naples delights and surprises. The rosemary chicken “steak” was rich and tasty; the grilled vegetables (zucchini today) flavorsome; and the insalata mista had tomatoes that tasted like tomatoes, even though it is early October as I write this. It is a lively, warm, charming atmosphere and clearly a decent percentage of the clientele are Neapolitans. Staff was a little overtaxed on a Saturday night but still managed like a ballet corps to pull off a feat of delivering a lovely and delicious experience. Absolutely fabulous. Forget the “made for tourists” eateries on the plaza & wander down this side street for top dining. The staff/owners/chefs/waiters are friendly, chatty and take suck pride in what they prepare. If you’re after meat, there’s a display of the various types you can order. If you want a platter of cold meats and/or cheese, they’re all on display & are prepared in front of your eyes.
