Napoli is truly an amazing place with very kind people and a good vibe. Until you arrive at Januarius and you face the worse hot tempered waitress and her manager (I assume they are related - family or couple - because how can you let an employe insult costumers like that?). We arrived without reservations around 19h30 and were told we could sit at 21h40. They were out of charcuterie, but it was fine since we wanted pasta. We saw other tables were having basket of bread and asked for one. The waistress toss it on the table acting like she was mad; this is when we understood how unwelcomed we were. We had a problem with one dish. There was a bone in the Ragu pasta we found hurting teeth on it, and the dish was very too sweet. We told the waitress, and she was upset, contesting our comment and negating the fact chewing on a bone could be unpleasant. She theb calls her manager to come, with her negative attitude. She leaves the table, looking very upset. And don't come back. The manager comes to clear out and carry the dessert menu, without glances or words. The only person who seems to have any manners is another waiter who comes to apologize to us. At that moment, the waitress arrives to tell him over the shoulder while he is speaking to us that "it's not worth apologizing to us." This redheaded waitress seens unable to control herself. Table on our left seemed to have problems too: they forgot their dessert and got offered stuff. They were locals, I assume this is why they had a better treatment we had.
My husband and I have eaten all over the world and worked in restaurants for 15 and 25 years. This restaurant does not deserve the Michelin recommendation (we will contact them, by the way). All dishes were mediocre. The carpacio as a starter lacked acidity, the pistachio pasta incipid and the ragú pasta disgusting. The bottle of wine ordered was not opened at the table, which is very strange. The place is absolutely to be avoided: any other place in Naples offers very good food, and above all, you will not risk being insulted by unprofessional staff. Tourist are not welcomed there.
EDIT: I am so glad of the answer offered by the manager we can read below. Truly pathetic and...

Firstly, let's talk value. Januarius doesn't just deliver a meal; it delivers an entire symphony of flavors at a price that feels like a generous hug from an Italian nonna.
Now, let's dive into the Ragu. Picture this: a velvety blend of tender meats dancing in a pool of savory sauce so divine, you'll swear you've discovered the secret to eternal happiness with each heavenly bite.
And the Spaghetti! Oh, dear friend, the Spaghetti! It was as if it had been plucked from the stars themselves, each strand a testament to the cosmic wonders of Italian cuisine.
But wait, there's more! The Cheesecake… If love had a flavor, it would undoubtedly be this ethereal creation. We would mortgage our souls just to bask in its creamy, decadent embrace once more.
Our server, a delightful maestro of merriment, not only attended to our every whim but also indulged us in the playful art of learning the pronunciation of 'Januarius' – a linguistic feat that left us feeling both cultured and utterly charmed.
And let's not forget the wine pairings – selected by our server, who guided us through a symphony of reds and whites that elevated our meal to the realm of the sublime.
Alas, our only sorrow is that our time in Naples ends tomorrow, and we must bid farewell to Januarius. But fear not, for the memories of this culinary adventure will linger in our hearts – and our taste buds – until we meet again.
Grazie mille, Januarius, for an experience that transcends mere dining and ascends to the realm of pure,...
Read moreAt first, I have to say that the food was very good and the interior decoration was really nice. It could be 5 stars, but unfortunately, it's not the food we remembered after this visit. My friend and I felt that the waiter was quite judgemental. It seems that for him, we looked like we didn't earn enough to afford to eat there. Besides that, he tried to preach us what the sections from the menu mean and in what order we should eat them. That was quite rude. The order we wanted to make shouldn't really be the waiter's interests until we ask him for support. I think overall, we were treated without proper respect and professionalism. I wouldn't write that if it was only my impression, but it wasn't. I've been to many expensive restaurants and this is not the service I was given. I tried to be polite and waited for the waiter to show professionalism, but I didn't live to see it.
I think there is always a way to suggest some things politely, so the client does not feel uncomfortable.
I also want to flag that this opinion relates only to one specific waiter. All the rest seemed to be very nice and polite.
I've read owner responses to other negative comments, and I am disappointed. People wrote that 3 EUR coperto is high. We've been to the restaurant with the view on Vesuvio and the sea, and we paid 2 EUR, so yes it is a fact - it's high.
Other comment from the owner was that someone paid 29 EUR for the order... really? Does it really matter? So if someone wants to come and drink a glass of wine, is worse client than the one who spends 100 EUR? Every guest should be valuable and treated with respect. I hope the owner will draw a conclusion and not...
