We recently dined at this restaurant and overall, the food was good. However, the service was a bit slow and the waitress was not very friendly. Being on vacation, we didn't speak Italian fluently, but we tried to learn a few words to order. Unfortunately, the waitress repeatedly told us we could speak English, seeming exasperated by our attempts to speak Italian. As tourists, we find it respectful to try to speak the local language at least a little, but in this restaurant, it seemed to be frowned upon. Despite this, the quality of the food deserves four stars.
Edit : After receiving a response from the owner, we learned that the waitress is a student from a hospitality school and is practicing with them, including trying to learn the language. We did not know this and understand the situation better now. Learning a profession and a new language is not easy, and we appreciate her efforts. Therefore, we are raising our rating and wish her all the best in her training and career...
Read moreAs half Italian, and always going there on holiday, I've eaten good pizza quite a lot. Finally I went to Naples this summer to taste the best one in the world. I've never been more disappointed though about Italian food before. This pizza was so bad. Bitter, burned, raw in the middle, tasteless ingredients. Just to cry over. But actually we laughed because it was so ironic, having the worst pizza we ever ate at this city! I'm not exaggerating if I say frozen pizza is better. For sure the personal at the supermarket where I would buy that would also be much friendlier and interested as the waiters at Locanda del Grifo. After taking away our plates that were still full because we left everything there, no questions were asked. They were also silent when taking our payment and putting the ticket on the table without looking at us. Let's hope because they felt ashamed. Hopefully they will change their quality, like someone that loves their work, like a lot of other...
Read moreLocanda del Grifo was such a great find right in the heart of Naples’ Old Town. It was recommended to us by some art merchants on Via Port’Alba, where we had just bought a few local street artworks, and it turned out to be the perfect choice.
The restaurant is tucked away under the shade of an ancient tower, which gives it a cool and charming atmosphere. It feels like a true little Neapolitan tavern.
We had a spectacular eggplant parmigiana and some delicious spaghetti alla Nerano, perfectly creamy and flavorful. The Burma spritz was excellent (these days you can find a good one everywhere in Naples), and we also saw some amazing fried pizzas coming out of the kitchen – tempting for next time! It’s the kind of place to go when you don’t necessarily want pizza but still want authentic local food.
The staff was extremely kind and welcoming, and prices, as often in Naples, were more than fair. Highly recommended – we’ll...
