Da Attilio is a well-known name in the pizza world, celebrated for its octagram-shaped star pizzas. Established in 1938, the pizzeria offers both traditional round and star-shaped pizzas. The star-shaped options are limited (I counted 4), with the star tips always filled with ricotta cheese. While the star shape is appealing, I personally feel the ricotta filling doesn’t enhance the flavor. Da Attilio is a popular spot for tourists, but it’s not a tourist trap; locals also visit regularly, especially during the off-season. A highlight is often seeing the owner, Attilio Bachette, personally preparing and serving pizzas. The pizzeria is AVPN certified (no. 72) and was named the best pizzeria in 2021 by fellow pizzaiolos. I had a few pleasant experiences dining here and would again return to try more flavors. Interestingly, I found the simplest cheese-free "Napoletana" pizza to be the most enjoyable so far. The prices are truly reasonable; the most expensive pizzas cost around 10 Euros. On the other hand, while it’s a very good pizzeria, I’ve had better pizza elsewhere, particularly when it comes to cheese quality. They rely on fior di latte instead of mozarella di bufala and unfortunately it is not possible to upgrade it. Some of the products are DOP(Denominazione di Origine Protetta) certified. These include San Marzano tomatoes, yellow tomatoes, red grape tomatoes with needle like-tip (del Piennolo del Vesuvio) and the pecorino romano cheese.
The restaurant has an authentic worn-in relic feeling and cozy, but it is clean. Also, their service quality may vary from time to time if you do not speak Italian (because of the language barrier) but they are really...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed from the very beginning. The waiter was terrible and seemed angry that we even came. Only the lady from the staff seemed kind. Our waiter was extremely rude and was rushing us to place an order. There is about 20-30 positions of pizza in the menu so I didnt decide what to eat in 3 mins - he was irritated and annoyed. When I woke up to ask of the pizza they were preparing for someone, to check what kind of pizza it is in the menu, the waiter told me where is the toilet (??). When I explained that I want to ask about the pizza- he raised his voice and told me to sit down. It was very impolite and disrespectful. He came back in next 5 minutes so I had to choose whatever.
When the meal came it was even worse. The most important things for me in pizza were traditional components - but there were no tomato sauce. I tried to eat it but wanted to cry. The dough was soggy, soft and wet, every piece was covered in oil - as on the photo. When it came to payment I was told that the olives which were added to my meal are charged 3€ in addition (!! - ridiculous amount and trap for tourists). In summary, I was offered the regular price for my meal - but I left everything what is on the photo. It was inedible. The lady which seemed kind in the beginning- when I told her that my pizza is soggy and oily - her answer was “it is pizza!”. When she finally asked what was wrong and I explained- she just told me I am wrong and this is real “Ortolana”. I ate way better pizza the day before and it is ridiculous how I was treated here. Absolutely not recommend this sad, disappointing,...
Read moreOur experience at Pizzeria Da Attilio was far from the authentic Italian dining experience we hoped for. Despite going during the off-season, we faced an excruciatingly long wait. There’s no clear system for when they let people in, leading to confusion and frustration as guests lingered for hours—many still waiting after we finished our meal. To make matters worse, there’s no space outside to wait, so standing for such a long time was incredibly uncomfortable.
The staff didn’t help matters either. While not unfriendly, they weren’t particularly attentive or warm, which left us feeling ignored during our entire visit.
I usually trust waitstaff recommendations, but this time it was a huge letdown. I asked for their best pizza and went with the “bestseller of the month.” What I received was far from what I expected: a pizza-like creation without any sauce or cheese, just bread with apple sauce, hazelnuts, pork loin, and pear. It was not what I would consider a pizza at all, especially after waiting 1.5 hours outside. The lack of basic elements like sauce and cheese made it feel more like a snack than a meal, and it only added to my frustration.
For a place that’s supposed to be a culinary highlight, the long wait, lack of customer care, and disappointing food made for a truly underwhelming experience. Definitely not worth the wait or the hype. I’m sure there are good pizzas here but unfortunately I had a...
