We went there for our mother’s 60s birthday reading some good reviews… we couldn’t have been more disappointed by our night. The setting of the restaurant is very nice but once we got seated not long after a waiter literally threw the menus on our table without a “hello” our “welcome”. This waiter was followed by a waitress 15 minutes later that had very little knowledge of English and directly took our order of food without us ever receiving the drinks menu. When we asked for the drinks menu, and waited again 15 minutes for someone to take that order, our plates came at the same time than our cocktails which is not really nice and feels kind of rushed. When we got our plates we tried several times to get a waiters attention without success … half through our plates we finally got to ask some sauce because the meat was quite dry and lacking taste. He went away after our demand and we never got our sauce, but never notified that we wouldn’t get it… so we waited before eating the rest of our food and by the time we could catch another waiter to complain that we never received what we asked for the food was cold… This circus went on for a while until we complained about this poor service and asked to talk to a manager that could speak English. He made a nice gesture and gave us a discount on our bill. In the end once we really had to pay the bill, this discount had not been communicated to the “bill lady” and on top of that they charged us for a bottle of wine that we never ordered… again we had to lose time checking the bill and complaining about the mistakes, and if we had not checked we would have ended up paying more than we should for such a bad service… for a restaurant that is pretending to be “fancy” it’s really disappointing to be treated as worthless tourists and to be served by incompetent people that couldn’t care less about this night that was supposed to be special for us.. our mom was sad and quite furious ! Nice food and nice atmosphere but service is seriously not what’s expected for the...
Read moreWe got away from the city for a weekend and picked Noto. With two small kids, wandering from church to church gets pretty soon boring, so we sat down in this place for an 'aperitivo'. They offer shelves of books, but still it was not clear if they are to be read or to be sold, we bought two books for the kids and asked if we could get some drinks and chips/peanuts. They were to us extremely rude and although four waiters seemed to be busy at their central counter and there were less than 10 guests in the pub/restaurant, we really found the waiting time (around 25 minutes) exaggerated. The kids got bored, we had already read the books twice to them and at the end they offers some homemade breadsticks instead of the chips and nuts. We paid a fortune for all of this (around 20 euros without the books) and left the place pretty upset. Nobody even said Goodbye to us. Fancy place (interior design and furniture fabulous), but shameful...
Read moreI came to Anche Gli Angeli because the Lonely Planet guide recommended it (with a star no less) but it is, in reality, a culinary hell. The food was so horrendous that I wondered if I was in a hidden camera show. The pulpo was an insult to every octopus that ever lived: drier than a mummy, tougher than a tractor tire, tasteless and fried to a greasy lump. The plate was marred by a mushy pale potato that had lost any texture and flavor. On the side of that lay a wilted mountain of plain rocket. Next to that a pile of unseasoned tomatoes that were so shriveled that they reminded me of the sad faces of the customers around me (I had to keep myself from warning them to get out while they still could). I have rarely had such a depressing meal in my life. The pulpo cost 22 euro, which would have been a fair price if it wasn't a...
