Palace Caffè — Restaurant in Orvieto

If you are a non Italian visitor you want to be ignored, treated poorly and want a lottery type payment ( one time it's this price the next time it's a different price) snacks are given to others but not you . Then Palace on Piazza del Popolo is for you. Until this year they were great. Friendly and even though your spoken Italian left a lot to be desired (as long as you made an effort ) you were welcomed and treated fairly. The prices were the same for everyone, they were happy to have you there and you were treated the same as everyone else. We have spent many years in Orvieto and have always enjoyed being there, Palace was the place we recommend to all. But not now!! There are places here that would be happy to have you join the locals and will not treat you like a intruder. They make a nice Gin and Tonic, but the ordering experience isn’t great. We asked if they did cocktails and the server said yes. Just yes. We asked if they had a cocktail menu - no. Again, just no. It took probing for the server to say they’d make whatever you asked for, except not really, because cocktails aren’t really an Italian thing and mostly they don’t know them. Gin and tonic was a fallback.

I recently visited this café in Orvieto and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. One barista's attitude towards me was noticeably unfriendly, and it felt as though my presence was unwelcome. I observed that she was more polite and friendly with other customers, particularly those who were not of Latino descent.
