Haiku — Restaurant in Palermo

Yesterday we went to this little restaurant in Via Ricasoli. We were not really interested in vegan dishes, but for a change we were ok trying something new. We arrived there early (19.30) with two kids and were welcomed warmly. Tiny chairs and tables in order to make the most of the available inner space, but we were still comfortable. Important that nobody sat at the tables next to us, we'd have disturbed each other. The menu was on a simple laminated sheet which did not really suit the place and it was not clear what was an appetizer and what was more of a second course. However, the food we ordered was delicious (the appetizer mix for two, pasta alla norma, a quinoa salad with aubergine balls and a risotto with spices. I ordered a glass of Syrah, excellent choice they made for me. I highly recommend their ice-cream: their almond and pistachio flavors were heaven. Speaking of a bio, vegan and eco-sustainable restaurant, their prices were obviously high, we paid 95 euros for two adults and two kids who shared their French fries and a plate of pasta. Con grande dispiacere scrivo una delle recensioni più amare e controvoglia della mia vita. Non c'è cosa più brutta di scegliere un ristorante nel quale riunirsi dopo tanto tempo con la famiglia che asseconda il tuo stile di vita, e trovarsi con un umore che va peggiorando ogni minuto che passa , insieme alla voglia di andarsene il prima possibile. Purtroppo tutto questo non a causa del cibo, buono, gustoso e a volte anche al disopra delle aspettative, ma per colpa di un personale , non adeguato all'affluenza di clienti, disattento, non professionale , non pronto e non curante delle esigenze dei clienti. Scrivo di seguito qualcuno dei problemi che abbiamo avuto durante questo pranzo che è andato di granlunga al di sotto delle mie speranze. Abbiamo aspettato molto tempo per delle bevande chieste più volte durante tutto il pranzo, quali: una seconda acqua, una seconda cocacola (mai arrivata) , una birra (arrivata diversa da quella chiesta, ma già all'inizio avevamo perso le speranze nel chiedere un cambio) , e anche per un caffè a fine pasto, che, ormai stremati dal dover sempre catturare l'attenzione di una delle due camerieire, abbiamo bevuti in piedi. Preciso che abbiamo atteso non perché il locale fosse pieno o perché vi erano troppe comande, ma per semplice e discutibile dimenticanza del personale. Ho ordinato anche del cibo takeaway ( perché una volta ancora sottolineo che la cucina merita tanto ma non basta a coprire un servizio in sala pessimo ) , e del mio ordine non solo è stato fraintesa la quantità, ma ANCHE ciò che volevo portare via : avevo chiesto SOLO due hamburger e mi hanno fatto pagare tutto il piatto, quindi compreso di 2 contorni (x2), senza chiedermi se volessi cambiare i contorni che avevo sottolineato di NON volere sapendo di poterli escluderli o cambiarli come nelle volte precedenti.

Inoltre una volta fatto notare l'errore , dopo aver visto lo scontrino, davanti anche ad una figura che mi è sembrata essere un manager , NESSUNO ha battuto ciglio , NESSUNO ha provato a cambiare qualcosa nel conto , a preoccuparsi delle richieste fatte da me e mai esaudite, o a scusarsi per l'esperienza orribile che ci hanno regalato in un giorno che doveva essere speciale. Di questo pranzo ci rimane una grande delusione , rammarico ed una quantità enorme di sospiri che abbiamo ricevuto ad ogni domanda e richiesta avanzata al personale del ristorante. In quanto persona molto attiva sui social, ho sempre condiviso immagini di questo locale, per la stima e la contentezza che provavo per il cambiamento, ma ad oggi non consiglierei mai a nessuno un'esperienza del genere. Mi dispaice che in un ristorante cosi innovativo non ci sia la minima attenzione al cliente o quanto meno un modo per scusarsi dell'esperienza non affatto gradevole vissuta. Ho lavorato a lungo nella ristorazione e non addito un errore o una distrazione, ma bensì condanno la perseveranza ed il menefreghismo totale nel cercare di sistemare la situazione anche alla fine, davanti a delle persone obbligate ad alzarsi per pagare e bere il caffè in piedi. Very nice and modern restaurant with an interesting choice of vegan dishes, which is rather unique in Palermo. Great choice of Kombucha and special seasonal dishes. I had the vegan paella which was exceptional great, the tempe was crisp and and the rice and the vegetables cooked perfectly. We also had a delicious hazelnut tiramisu which was creamy and not too sweet.

As someone who eats a lot of Sushi and who’s father works as sushi chef, the sushi was just okay, I think it could have been bit more flavourful and texture. My wife had the tofu Timballo, which we both found a bit disappointing, it was cooked well but was bit boring. It was basically just spinach and scrambled tofu with carrot purée, it would have been better if it included pasta and some more texture and flavour.

I still recommend the restaurant overall, since I am sure there are plenty of great dishes we weren’t able to try. Also kudos to the...
