I don’t know where to start with this review. We had two starters (mixed fried local foods and tuna tartare), then fresh fish (seabass and ‘dorada’ - bream). We had one dessert between us which was a soft vanilla cake. The wine was a Sicilian Chardonnay which was €50, so quite how we ended up with a €200 bill I don’t know, they must have seen us coming.
Let me start with the food, the fried starter was something of nothing, a smattering of pretty tasteless fried foods intended to reflect the street foods such as panelle. The tuna tartare was good but served with toasted basic quality sliced white bread.
The mains were odd as we ordered one fish grilled and the other prepared with wine. Our lovely big fish never materialised just some small fillets from them. The juices in my dish were ok but nothing incredible. The grilled fish was again not bad but we felt it should have come whole on a platter.
Dessert was good but nothing remarkable.
The wine I have to say was beautiful, and we really enjoyed it.
Decor was dated, and atmosphere flat. Service was good but at times we felt it was a little overfussy, but that is minor.
But €200? And a bill with nothing itemised? And it wasn’t €201 or €196 but exactly €200. We’ve eaten meals in Palermo easily as good as this for €60-70, and paid less for more refined meals elsewhere so we felt we’d been taken advantage of. A bill of £120-140 perhaps but €200 was more than excessive when the restaurant itself seems dated and there are no views as no windows.
Our hotel receptionist nearly fell off her seat when I showed her our...

We stumbled on Lo Scudiero in what was promising to be a fruitless online search for a decent meal within walking distance of our hotel . . .and were so charmed by our first encounter that we returned on our second Palermo night without a second thought.
Try the delicious filets of pork, any of the evening's still-dripping catch from the adjacent Tyrrhenian Sea, al dente pasta innovations, perhaps a fine slice of cassata siciliana for dessert?
While I stubbornly continue to grant 5 stars to only five restaurants on Earth, you will not regret for an instant spending an evening in the lovely 4+++ star...
Read moreI was there tonight and I feel that the atmosphere is very up tight and not friendly at all and overpriced. I only ordered a simple tuna fillet, salad and roast potatoes and the tuna was cooked so much that was totally dry and I could not eat it. I asked the waiter if that is the way they cook it and he answered that if grilled they normally cook it all the way unless someone ask not to. To me that's just a joke as even a 3 year hold knows good quality high end tuna should only be cooked outside and almost row inside. I mentioned wile paying and he just could not care less he could have just apologise about it or offered a Coffe or something. he lethally took my pricy...
