If I could, I would rate this restaurant 4,5 out of 5. What I really liked is that the restaurant is situated away from the main turistic streets, so it feels a lot more authentic and calm.
First we ordered a starter: bruschetta with fish. This was very good and the portion was fairly big, you can definitely share this starter with more people. I would probably say this was the dish that stood out to me the most. Next we had 3 different pastas: with pistachio and gamberi, with cream and gamberi and with tomato and gamberi.
Tagliatelle with gamberi and cream was the most basic one. It was good but it was definitely something one could prepare at home and it would probably taste the same. The big rigatoni with tomato and gamberi was the most fresh one and the sauce really had that sea taste, however we felt that this pasta shape was a bit awkward to eat with this particular sauce and gamberi because it was hard to taste all at the same time. Homemade pasta with pistachio was the most interesting one and to me it tasted the best, it was quite heavy tho, probably due to the heavy cream.
I probably wouldn’t visit this restaurant twice, just because It didn’t stand out so much, but it definitely didn’t disappoint and I would still recommend it if you want a more private,...
Read moreWe booked this place casually as it looked alright and we were not prepared for what followed. The menus looked like they'd been printed out this morning at a corner shop and our host informed us early on that he was doing full front of house for the restaurant solo that evening. What followed was a range of comical semaphore and our attempts to converse with him in eng-taliano greatly assisted by our polyglot friend.
In the truest sense this was dinner and a show as our server made up for the lack of other staff members through a combination of physical comedy and razzing us about forgetting which dishes we had ordered. At the end of the meal he lost our receipt then made up for it with complementary cannoli which we gladly scoffed.
This is hands down the best Italian food we have had all trip, simple and tasty and paired with an unforgettable experience. The pistachio pasta was amazing, the orata perfectly cooked and the caponata was beautifully balanced and ridiculous in portion size for the price.
I wouldn't advise going here if you're going to moan about small foibles or spaces between dishes but the food absolutely slaps. To top this all off we realised at the end he had thought we were Germans. Danke...
Read moreWelcoming and delicious. Quiet street with friendly owner-operators serving delicious, authentic Sicilian cuisine.
Isabella and Nicola are the husband and wife team, with Isabella as the chef and her father, Gaetamo assisting. Nicola is the front-of-house manager.
His warm welcome is the start of your meal, and Isabella and Gaetamo's cooking is the continuation of the family's sincere warm wishes and passion for fresh food. They were so helpful with suggesting Sicilian dishes to try and advising what to order due to my mum's allergy to cheese.
We tried the capanota, paccheri pasta with swordfish, shrimp & cherry tomatoes, Sicilian pasta with potato and meat. Really filling and delicious! Prices are also very reasonable.
We enjoyed the ambience of being away from the tourist crowd, in a local street where passersby are greeted, and where groceries are delivered on bicycle, and where the service is genuine and kind. A really lovely part of the old city.
It is especially wonderful as a tourist to be able to support a local, family-run trattoria where everyone feels welcomed. We are so glad we found this little treasure. We will be back! Thank you Isabella, Nicola and Gaetamo. May more success...
