This was a most surprising night! It started bumpily since we didn't call beforehand to make a reservation but instead showed up at the door hoping to be lucky... We weren't lucky at first... There was no empty tables to the place (neither inside nor outside) and it was full with locals, which is of course always a great plus when you visit a bar/resto for the first time. There were no empty places at the bar also which is our favourite place to sit. We tried to make a reservation for the next night quite disappointed and as we spoke there came a waiter and let us know that he could give us two spots at the bar if we agreed to be extra close to the people who were already sitting there. And we jumped at the chance! The bartender spoke good English and he took a liking in us when we told him that we were extremely interested in Sicilian wines. Our order to nibble on was a great (one of the greatest ever!) platter of italian cheese and charcuterie. With our new friend's held we decided on not ordering a whole bottle of wine to begin with but to start with a Prosecco and let him lead us into the heaven of Sicilian wine. So we did. Thankfully! And it was our lucky night indeed! We finished the night tasting glasses of wine that left us speechless. I don't know if they do this for everyone but we felt like royalty. Service was excellent and the bill was around 100 euros for the platter and 8 excellent glasses of wine in total. Our visit took place in August 2017. Still in our hearts! We are planning a weekend in Palermo just to visit Pizzo e...
Read moreOverall, we were left with impression that the place is overrated in terms of both quality and services. Start to finish was a disappointing experience and the only thing that could have saved everything, the food, was not great either.
We decided to order Beef Tagliata with roasted potato for myself and Spaghetti Carbonara with Truffles for my wife. For the beef I was recommended a parmesan fondue which I accepted. For the pasta we were told they don't have truffles so the pasta will be classic, and that the price instead of €30 will be €15.
We received the food, after waiting quite a bit, and it was ok. Not great, but ok. However, I never received my parmesan fondue and since we were on a bit of a rush I have not insisted.
After eating they offered us a complementary desert of sorts in the form a couple of biscuits, which were crushed even though they were pretty hard. Probably a nice intention but poorly executed considering they offered something they could have not sold.
We asked for the check and to our surprise we have seen we were charged €30 for NO TRUFFLE pasta and another €30 for the beef which was €24 on the menu. I imagine the fondue was charged as side for the beef even though I have not seen it.
Although we had to pay a €21 unjustified excess, we quickly decided it is not worth the hassle to sort this since we had more important things to do with our time...
Read moreThis is the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in Palermo.
I made a reservation for lunch at 12:30 today. I have a written confirmation. We arrived on time and we were told they were not serving until 1 PM. They asked us if we would like to see their wine bar next store.
We were seated, but we were not told it’s a completely different menu. We agreed to have a charcuterie plate and some wine as the kitchen did not open till 1 PM.
We ordered a bottle of Grillo. We were told the wine we wanted was not available. We told them we would like a Grillo; instead, they brought us a Chardonnay/inzolia blend.
After we finished the charcuterie, we were told about the few warm dishes they had available. We were asked if we could order from the restaurant menu and we were told no, to go back next door if we wanted to eat there.
We asked for our check and left.
We were treated like tourists. The funny thing is that I actually live here in Palermo, quite close to the restaurant.
Why did the restaurant accept a 1230 reservation if they could not honor it?
Why didn’t they just ask us if we could wait until 1 PM? It’s not like we were served any faster in the wine bar. The service was not only atrocious,...
