Not a tourist trap but book online for substantial discount... We were tourists in Palermo for five days, and Taverna dei Canti definitely did not trap us. Perhaps because we had done some research prior to arriving in Palermo and because it had appeared on several lists of good restaurants, it was on our short list. Even so, we made the decision to try them for dinner at the last minute but knew enough to call for a reservation before 7:30pm. As expected, the restaurant was completely packed but with reservations we were seated immediately. We enjoyed their Carbonara, Clams and made up our own plate of the Panarea Tuna from Main Sea Courses and Grilled Vegetables from the side dishes. Even with our waters and wines, the bill was very reasonable. And better yet, because we had known to book online, we were thrilled to benefit from a 35%+ "sconto" (usually only a 30% discount) which of course made our dining experience more memorable. We enjoyed the upbeat and fun restaurant atmosphere, excellent service, savory food, the great value and would highly recommend.

TOURIST TRAP I rarely write reviews but my experience here was so bad that I just had to. My four friends and I visited a restaurant in Sicily for a casual dinner. We had seen good reviews online and decided to give it a try, despite my initial skepticism when a waiter approached us in the street, which is standard for tourist traps. The atmosphere was alright, but the restaurant was extremely crowded. To make matters worse, a busker blowing into dollar store whistle all the time set up right next to the restaurant, blasting music so loudly that we couldn’t eat or talk comfortably. I've shown this in the image provided. The busker even went around asking for money, and rather than addressing the disruption, the restaurant staff danced along with him, much to the annoyance of many diners. The service was far from satisfactory. The wait time for our food was excessively long. The staff's lack of action regarding the busker also just made everything worse. The food was a major disappointment. My friend’s swordfish was drier than the Sahara desert, accompanied by what seemed to be canned oranges. I ordered gnocchi with basil pesto and burrata, which was just okay but came in an extremely small portion. The gnocchi tasted average at best. We also ordered fries that were unsalted and extremely greasy. I enjoyed eating the ice cubes from my empty cola glass more than the actual food I ordered. Given the poor quality of food and the overall unpleasant experience, the prices felt ridiculous. It was definitely not worth the money we spent. Especially the fact that they charged a service cost of 3 euro per person for a service that's non existant. Our dining experience was terrible. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially those looking for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. The good reviews are misleading and most likely paid.

It is tough for me to give a higher rating even though I enjoyed their food because of the hidden fees. We were charged 3 euro per person for the table setting and also another 3 euro per bottle of water which is quite expensive in my opinion. The food though was quite delightful. I especially liked the busiate with ragout. The pasta was cooked just right and the meaty sauce complemented the pasta so well. Texture and flavour was really good and I wish that I had ordered that. Instead, I had the carbonara which was still good but it was too salty for me. It was also very heavy from the cream and the cheese making it not as enjoyable as I woupd have liked. I also really liked the tomato sauce from their sardine meatballs, the balance of acidity and sweetness was just on point and enjoyable. The service was decent but most waiters and waitresses didn't know english so it was a bit confusing when they brought the food. It was however charming seeing the waitress doing her best to ask us in English if we were doing fine throughout the meal. The place was also quite big so it could accomodate a larger group like ours. However, the place was a bit tight and we were surrounded by expensive looking wine so it felt rather uneasy being seated there. All in all, the food was good for certain dishes but some were a bit too heavy and salty in my opinion. If you don't mind the hidden fees and the expensive water, this restaurant does offer enjoyable food.

Beautiful location on via maqueda. We went on a Tuesday (in late September) and there was a 30 min waiting time. When we were sat down, we had to wait a bit to order. The prices on the menu seemed reasonable. When the (very friendly) waiter came round to take our order, he suggested the daily special (slow cooked mountain pork) and we were persuaded to order it, in addition to sardine pasta, ragu pasta, and a caponata. We were stupid enough not to enquire the price of the special. The pork and caponata arrived first. The quantities were gourmet-level small. The caponata was tasty, but the pork left a lot to be desired. It was hard, dry, and pretty flavorless. Then came the pasta. The sardinia pasta failed at mixing the sardine flavor with the pasta. It was as if the cook just threw the sardines in and hoped for the best. The ragu was tasty but compared to the same greek dish (makaronia me kima) it fails to compete. The waiting time was not much for each course. What left us a particularly bad impression is that coka cola zero was priced higher than regular coke (€3 as opposed to €2,5), and that the price difference was not mentioned in the menu pricing. When the check arrived we found out that the daily special (the pork) was priced at €14, much more than what we were lead to believe. Would not recommend Ps: loved the napkins. Very soft and pleasant to the touch.

I hate to agree with some of the more recent reviews, but it is a tourist trap. Came at 10pm on a busy Wednesday night, vibe was good and seated very quickly. However, service was chaotic after we were seated and menu is pricey for what it is (€3 pp additional cover charge, €8 local bottled beer). Food took a while to come out, and they forgot one of our dishes. When we asked one of the waiters about it, he simply said “it’s coming” and without checking with the kitchen, went back to chatting up potential customers from the street. The dish never came. We also noticed inconsistent portion sizes and plating of the same dishes from table to table e.g. the table next to us that also ordered pasta alla Norma received a larger portion with more sauce and eggplant, basil and an eggplant chip (not that it would’ve made it much better, tasted very average). Our ragu portion was tasty though and quite substantial. All in all, our experience was not a 4.5 (rating in Aug 2024) and I think there are many better places to dine at, especially for the price.
