If you’re looking for that one typically authentic dish in Palermo then Spaghetti con le Sarde at Trattoria Ferro di Cavallo is it. #sicily #foodtour #foodandculture

For everyone that loves good food: don't come here. This restaurant is a disrespect to Italian food. First of all; the menu is badly translated and none of the waiters speak English, so it's difficult to order something or make the right choice. For example: some dishes don't come with a side so you have to order that extra but that is not clear at all. The waiters are rude and not make you feel welcome, as if they just want to rush you out of the restaurant to serve new people. When we had to pay the bill, they were just looking at their phone completely careless. Further, i ordered the parmigiana as a starter and you could tell that the sauce literally comes from a can. My main dish was the fritto misto (fried seafood mix) and it's the worst seafood platter i have ever had. Tasteless and cold, just thrown onto the plate. No spices, not even salt and pepper. I have no idea how they let that out of the kitchen, it looks like someone chewed on it before. The place is also not cosy; it's next to a garage so you basically sit in the smell of a gas station. The "table cloth" was hard paper and the chairs are plastic and uncomfortable. I have absolutely no idea how this restaurant is popular with good reviews. But to my advice: stay away, don't waste your limited time in a restaurant like this and go to La Galleria instead.🙂‍↕️ I have never published a review before, but this was so horrible that i had to warn everyone!

The food here is outstanding. The service is objectively bad but in a fun way — they’re lively. Try the caponata, it was the best we had in Palermo! We ordered caponata, paranza, Nero di seppia, anciova, and pesca spada. Everything was exceptional. Best meal we had the entire trip. I know every trattoria does a slightly different caponata so it’s up to your tastes, but I liked that this one was less sweet and more balanced as far as salty, sweet, and sour. The servers were all fun and sort of unprofessional but extremely skilled — it was unique. For example, our waitress couldn’t get the cork off the champagne and asked us to help open it ourselves 😂 idk, if you’re good humored it’s a lot of fun. The owner was a bit creepy but it’s comical and stereotypical so we were more entertained by it than anything else. Definitely worth it for the all around experience. They’re unapologetic and lean into it, so it just works. Don’t listen to dumb tourist reviews. Go with a good sense of humor and order something typical. Read up on the typical dishes of Palermo so you have what you want to try in mind. And if you don’t speak Italian, google translate or just google search the dishes in advance to make things go faster. Or just go with Italians 😉

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Al ferro di Cavallo, and let me tell you, it was an absolute disaster from start to finish. Despite the allure of low prices and supposedly local cuisine(the food was good to be fair!), the abysmal service left me utterly disappointed.

First off, we booked a table at a specific time, only to find ourselves waiting for what felt like an eternity. The waiters seemed to have no regard for our reservation, leaving us standing around like forgotten relics.

When we finally got seated, the ordeal was far from over. The staff's attitude was downright appalling – no smiles, no warmth, just indifference bordering on rudeness. They practically threw our food onto the table, showing zero respect for the patrons.

Speaking of food, it arrived at our table so late that I began to wonder if they were growing the vegetables themselves. By the time it finally appeared, any appetite I had left had withered away like a forgotten houseplant.

To top it all off, as if the universe was conspiring against us, there wasn't even a changing table in the restroom. My partner and I were left to change our baby in the cold, unforgiving outdoors, cursing the day we ever set foot in this establishment.

Adding insult to injury, the staff at Ferro di cavallo didn't even bother to conceal their internal disputes, airing their dirty laundry right in front of the patrons. It was like watching a reality TV show, but instead of drama for entertainment, we were subjected to uncomfortable and unprofessional bickering.

The sight of employees squabbling in plain view of customers was not only cringeworthy but also incredibly off-putting. It created a tense atmosphere that overshadowed any attempt at enjoying the meal.

Save yourself the embarrassment and seek sustenance elsewhere. It's not worth...

This was the worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant in my life and I have been to many places :( Where to start.... The host, manager or whatever his role is at this osteria, was very far from welcoming. On the contrary, we had to ask him twice before he showed us to one of the 3 obviously free tables. The waitress was rude and as soon as she found out we are not local and asked for English menu literaly threw a greesy booklet at the table (one for four adults) without saying a word. 30 mins later she brought two out of five dishes we had ordered again grumpy and not saying a word, no forks, knives. Even thoigh we have asked her and another two staff members to bring us silverware, they never brought any and I had to go inside to the bar and take them myself. When we asked about the other dishes we had ordered she realised they were not communicated to the kitchen, so we had to wait another 30 mins. I do understand that this can happen anywhere, however she did not make the effort to at least apologize. The other staff members also acted as if we are invisible and did not pay any attrntion when we wanted to order/ask something. When we asked fot the bill, she went to the manager (who was drinking with his buddies) and appqrently he wrote a random number of how much we owed on a flying piece of paper without breakdown of the items and their individual cost. Overall I can say that the service was not only horrible, but what's more concernig was that the waitress and the mamager did not seem to care at all. On top of the horrible service the food was far from great as well - e.g. the fried calamari were super chewy, probably frozen several years ago. The bread was old as well. In conclusion, I would strongly discourage anyone especially English-speaking tourists to...

The owner is a failed hippie playing the Italian playboy, a shame that he looks vulgar and totally daft, seriously lacking of education and ripping off the clients.

He actually ripped a sheet of paper looking like a kitchen order from my hands without talking to me, quickly and randomly calculating something and handed me a card machine with an inflated price. And don't even try to argue... no detailed bill indeed which is not even legal. All he was interested in was the money, screaming "musica" in the kitchen, and the girls with whom he probably is too touchy. I am even wondering if he was not under influence.

The prices seem attractive but in the end are not. The food was ok but average, cold for some dishes, and the check was totally random so you don't know what you are paying but you can be sure you'll pay more. I counted all, copperto, bread (that we refused), and we still could not match the price we paid. The "waiters" are a total joke. There is a short one acting like a diva on a catwalk, barely talking to you as if you don't exist but for your money, and making mistakes in the order. This idiot even got upset when we refused the bread after mentionning being coeliac, but this is because he knew that even if we refuse it we would pay it... the other waitress is drinking aperol spritz on the job faster than the time it takes to prepare one. And most of the cooks are not sicilian BTW...

One of the worst experience I had in all italy. Food 2, service 0, local experience 0, bill 0, environment 0.

Of course there is such a line that they can afford to threat the clients like a cattle. To seriously avoid. I saw some comments saying to disregard negative comments but they are very real, and I speak fluent Italian so no...
