This bistro was of course featured on an old episode of “No Reservations”, and it just happened to be open for lunch on Xmas day with a prix fixe menu. I was riding my bicycle around an empty, low season Palermo and stumbled upon it being open by chance. About a dozen locals with their families were already enjoying their holiday lunch together, replete with crying infants and double cheeked greeting kisses, all while Bowie's “Life on Mars” provided the ironic opening soundtrack to my seating. Then it started to arrive, ground tuna balls in tomato sauce, fresh oysters, shrimp ceviche, octopus tentacles stewed in vinaigrette, sea urchin and ricotta ravioli…and the food just kept coming…grilled swordfish & potatoes, the crab cakes infused with black currants were especially to die for…along with a douse of champagne and a local white wine to wash it all down, finally ending with a slice of lemon creme cake…little did I know I had signed up for the traditional Sicilian Christmas “Feast of the Seven Fishes”...

It was probably very good once upon a time. I happened to see No Reservations in my Palermo research and the place was around the corner from where I’m staying… so curiosity took over. Unfortunately it was disappointing. Place was totally empty except for one table- who also saw the Anthony Bourdain episode. I was about to turn away, but the owner (must be) came outside and beckoned me in. I ordered the seafood pasta which LOOKED amazing, but the flavor was SO weird! Cilantro or mint? Very off-putting. And very salty. It was a big portion so I felt bad not eating most of it, but I couldn’t force it. Garlic bread was good though! And reasonable prices..!

As seen on TV… everything was just passable. Mussels with no broth meant no real flavor except for lemon provided. Squid ink pasta and sauce too salty and a little gross in a way I can’t describe (this is a dish that I love and have eaten elsewhere many times). Tuna cooked well done, again with no flavor. Staff was very friendly to us as tourists. Recommended a very good Sicilian wine that we enjoyed. Seemed like we were the youngest patrons in the restaurant by about 30 years, the older locals seemed to love it. Wanted this to be good, it really seemed like it had promise.

Wish this place never existed. It started not that bad: we were looking for a seafood restaurant and it was a natural choice being close to the B&B. Even though the place was full when we came the owner ordered to take another table from the storage and we've got the place quickly. Every another minute our experience got worse. We ordered two starters, 2 fish and a bottle of wine. We were immediately informed that the most basic bottle of white wine costs 25 euro. Ok... The seafood salad was extremely small and didn't taste better than the one from supermarket. The fish that we got was simply fried, it was a bit smelly inside and want cleared properly from the top. We took the choice of the day that was supposed to be 5 eur per 100g. In the middle of the dinner there was a conflict between the owner and the cook: the former started to beat the cook, pushed him in the kitchen and only God knows what happened there. When I was thinking that this guy scared to death with no motivation is preparing our meals I lost my appetite. The toilet was also inappropriate - even no doors to close... But the funniest part, as it happens in such places, was the bill. It turned out that our fish was almost 1 kg heavy and weighted for 40 euro (2 moderate pieces, by eye max 250-300g per each), our starters appreciated in price vs. menu and it wasn't possible to pay by card anymore despite the owner assuring the opposite 1h before. When mentioned inconsistency in the bill and payment method, the terminal started working again and we've got a 5 eur "discount" for inconsistency in the bill. I preferred to pay 80 eur, and get out from that place ASAP. What we ordered: 2 starters, 2 pieces of fish of the day, water, a bottle of wine. Don't recommend to anyone experience that for...

The owner/manager and staff of this place should be more careful in assuming their foreign guests don't speak the language. But if you like to make fun of people behind their backs, maybe you shouldn't be in the hospitality business in the first place. The food was good, let me start with that. Not amazing, but defenitely okay. The price for their raw fish is about four times what we payed anywhere else on the island though. We learned during our meal why this place was almost empty on a Friday evening... We overheard the owner making fun of some foreign guests who were in town to see the pope. We aren't religious, but this didn't seem in very good taste. But it gets worse. My girlfriend went to the toilet and found out that there were some restaurations going on and there was a clear view from the street down into the basement and on to the toilet that she was sitting on. She came back shocked and baffled only to see who we presume was the wife of the owner/manager coming in and laugh about the fact that she just spotted a woman on the toilet below. I mean, really?! When we asked at the end if the 20 euro for the crudo (four raw shrimp and some chopped white fish) was correct we were told that the price was 65 euro to purchase this quality on the market. I wish anyone goodluck to find prices like that anywhere on Sicily. We paid reluctantly and when we left overheard the owner/manager complain in the kitchen about two guests who had dared to ask about the bill. It is a shame when the work of a good cook gets nullified by such bad management. For the food 3.5 stars. But we know how to cook a decent meal ourselves so food is only part of why we go to...

If you read other bad reviews you will find nothing new in mine. I stopped for a last bite before bed. 2 glasses of wine, and then I was suggested the fish of the day at 5€, maximum 200g. A few prawns were thrown on top without me asking, so I thought they are doing it cause its late and they were closing soon so I thought they just wanna get rid of the products they no longer need. Ok so this, in this poor area of Palermo with no views nor luxury (lets get straight this is a ‘basic’ restaurant in all senses) came to 48€. I live in Spain you see so with ‘fresh mediterranean fish’ you don’t fool me. They have a clear strategy of fooling foreigners, and mostly of avoiding to publish prices and of speaking lots of things you don’t understand. This is one of the rare times principle asked for justice, we called the police and after 2h of this horrible experience where they insulted us in all possible ways, were not violent with me or my bf because the police was in front telling them they were making it worse, we paid 24 and left them with the officers... An unfortunate experience of this city in Sicily. On the following day we dined in our luxurious boutique hotel in Syracuse. This order had 2 entrées, 2 main dishes being veal sirloin and fresh fish of the day and had 2 bottles of superb wine. It came to 95€. Please refuse to be made fun of in your holidays specially contributing to the...
