During my visit to Pisa, I came across Ristorante Indiano Gandhi - this doorway transports you back to the culinary traditions of India. From the decor to the admirable hospitality that is the pinnacle force that guides this experience, it echoes the warmth and kindness this space offers to the visitors/locals of Pisa. The staff goes above and beyond to serve their customers - they are multilingual (i.e., Italian, English, etc.), they pay attention to detail, offer many recommendations if you can’t decide what to eat, have a good understanding of pairings of alcoholic beverages with Indian foods, and prioritize that their guests all have a great culinary experience with them by going the extra mile. Some of the things the highlights from my dining experience were the expansive bar menu - they have great wines as well to pair with your food, along with many non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, I would even suggest asking for their recommendations to accompany your meal best; along with wine I did get a pistachio lassi which was also great; the gulab jammun was fresh and delicious; Kadhi paneer was fresh and very flavorful; and the naan was perfect. The menu does a great job of going over the meals offered, listing the dietary notes, and explaining the dishes - the staff is very accommodating with their dishes and can alter them according to your taste or dietary requirements. The staff/owner truly put their customers at the forefront, as I recall them staying open past their lunch service to accommodate last-minute customers and still providing them with the full dining experience. The owner is also frequently at the property and very hands-on in the restaurant, which is refreshing to see, and is very passionate about introducing Indian food to Italy. This is further evident as the staff is eager and happy to serve the customers who walk through the door, treating everyone who comes in as strangers to be like family by the end of the meal. Their love for Italy is shown through the appreciation they have for the culture as they reciprocated the warmth they received when they made Italy their home by sharing a small part of India in Pisa. Further, if you are looking for recommendations for Pisa or other places around Italy - you’ve found yourself in the best spot. The staff/owner has travelled extensively through Italy and will give you the best insider tips/recommendations for a memorable trip. If you are ever wandering in Pisa or even waiting at the train station (it’s a quick walk), I would highly recommend you stop by Ristorante Gandhi for a wonderful...
Read moreVerdict: If you want good tasting Indian food, good service and nothing else, this is the place for you. If you also care about the soft product; atmosphere and cleanliness (the bathrooms), look elsewhere. Detailed review: I visited the restaurant for lunch. I was seated without much difficulty despite the rush. The service was fast, and the orders came quickly. The quality of the food was very good. Vegetarian options are not as varied as in many other indian restaurants, but there is enough to choose from. On the food side, everything is fine. Service was polite and quick as mentioned. The bathrooms however were a different story. One was out of order and only the disabled bathroom worked. The disabled toilet had black water despite how many times you flushed and I wouldn't recommend sitting on it. Cleanliness wise, the bathrooms were not very good. When I sat down, a tray of papadums and sauces were brought to me. Glancing around it looks like these were brought to everyone and appeared complimentary. If you look at the menu and the bill however, you will see that these cost €3 and are not actually complimentary. I didn't appreciate the confusion and potential dishonesty here. In conclusion; if you want good tasting Indian food, good service and nothing else, this is the place for you. If you also care about the soft product; atmosphere and cleanliness (the bathrooms),...
Read moreWhat can I say! It was very disappointing food and service. We really love Indian food and decided to try this place after reading the reviews but what a let down.
We ordered lamb karahi and chicken curry aswell as starters. We also asked for extra spicy because we love spices and hot food. Both dishes were very bland, lacking any taste of Indian spices. Both dishes were sort of watery. To describe Both dishes in one work 'tasteless'. I wish we had tried the other Indian 'New India' on this side of town. Unfortunately we went with this because it had most reviews. These dishes were so mild, not spicy at all. Don't know how they can get that one wrong.
Iv realised I have no photos but that says it all, I usually always take photos of a good Indian but there was no joy in this one. Even the mint sauce looked illuminous green which was a turn off. Any home made mint sauce iv had in a decent Indian does not look this processed colour.
Staff were not very welcoming. The first sentence they spoke was after we paid the bill and they asked us where are you from, everything else was hand gestures. I particularly wasn't impressed by the waiter removing each dish instead of waiting until we had actually finished our meal. He must have came over 6 times taking one dish at a time, you just don't do that when a person is eating. We will choose more...
