Me and my mum are visiting Italy for a week and a bit, and I found this restaurant on Google Maps. The staff were extremely friendly, especially our waiter who explained how the menu worked. I ordered the Tuscan ravioli in ragù sauce as a first course. Easily the best dish from any restaurant I've ever eaten - the pasta had a perfect texture and the flavours of the sauce and the meat both inside and outside the ravioli were unbelievable. Next, we ordered the T-bone sharing steak (it comes medium-rare as per usual in Tuscany). I've never eaten steak cooked below well-done before so I was a bit nervous, but I'm glad I tried it. It was so juicy and tender, and the aesthetic of the sizzling platter as it arrived at the table contributed greatly to that. For dessert, I had the cooked cream with chocolate. It's similar to panna cotta, except it just tastes like crème anglaise from a crème brûlée mixed with white chocolate. It had a perfect balance between sweet and creamy, and the use of chocolate to tone it down made it so yummy. This all came to €56 (my mum ordered a starter but it unfortunately wasn't what she was expecting, but they took it off the bill to compensate). Oh, and did I mention this is including complimentary sparkling water, and red and white wine? Don't miss this place if you come to Pisa. Compared to the majority of other restaurants, this place is the brightest...
Read moreSimply the most incredible little restaurant and an absolute gem that we were lucky to stumble into, more by chance than on purpose. The unassuming exterior stands in stark contrast to the bustling and intriguing interior with an open kitchen area, separate bar and several rooms for patrons. We were lucky enough to be seated with a direct view into the kitchen and could watch the passionate and very professional crew at work. Every ingredient was treated with the upmost respect and put to best use in the dishes that were presented. From the delightfully delicate appetizers to the mouthwateringly luscious dolcés that were topped off with a perfect espresso, the whole experience was like a culinary interpretation of the late summer season. The dishes were a refreshing combination of modern interpretations and tradition Tuscan classics and every single one was on point. This was topped off by a waiter that was engaging, yet not overbearing whilst giving great insight into the dishes and the matching wines in a very personal and friendly manner, demonstrating both his detailed knowledge of the food and drinks as well as his great interpersonal skills. Overall, we can highly recommend La Buca and will definitely return when we are in...
Read moreWe had a sublime meal after arriving in Pisa when hilariously I had been looking at options of restaurants close to our accommodation during a hungry day’s travel from Corsica by ferry and then the lady responsible for our booking recommended it after I had already identified La Buca as somewhere we would enjoy. In late June mid week we managed to get a table at 8:30 and enjoyed a steak tartare and then mixed grilled seafood with a bottle of Rosé. The service was impeccable if slightly intimidatingly formal ( reminding us of our inate philistinism ) and the food was perfect. Prices seemed very fair but then we live in Ireland where outrageous prices are charged for indifferent food. It seemed like a place more popular with people living long term in Pisa and better for a quiet conversation. The building is beautiful. I would...
