We took a boat trip to Portofino and didn't really have anything planned. We only had a couple of hours to spend so we wandered around the harbour trying to find somewhere for just a drink and a snack that had spare seats and wasn't crazy prices. This bar was one of the only available places to sit. It was still very expensive compared to other places we visited in Italy, but that's the price tag that comes with Portofino and at least we could get just a couple of drinks. We liked that the drinks came with little snacks and service was quick. However, it wasn't the nicest bar I've been to. It felt a bit at odds with the other, sleeker bars and restaurants around the harbour. The ice cream was also the cheap stuff, not like proper Italian gelato. I also went to the toilet while I was there and I would recommend avoiding that if you can, I've been in worse toilets but it didn't feel clean. If you just want to grab a quick drink while you're waiting for your return ferry, and you're happy to pay the understandably inflated price tag, it's an ok stop off. But there were some nice looking gelateries down a couple of the side streets that would have been a better call.

Bar Morena is a place to avoid! We were looking for a place to have aperitivo before dinner, and we chose this bar that looked nice with the view on the main square and port. We ordered an espresso martini and a campari spritz without ice. The espresso martini was disgusting, prepared very badly with a lot of foam and no drink. The spritz arrived with tons of ice and it was very watery. We asked for another espresso martini, and second one had less foam, but still disgusting. The table was dirty, very cheap and the aperitivo was just a bowl of nuts and plain crisps. It was absolutely a disappointment and we paid 31 euros for all of this! In Portofino I would expect high prices, but also high quality and a top service. Please don't go in this place.

Disappointing Experience at Bar Morena We visited Bar Morena recently and were extremely disappointed by the experience. We were hoping to enjoy a drink on the terrace, but we were turned away because the first two rows were supposedly reserved for guests booking champagne bottles. Despite there being plenty of empty tables, we were still refused a seat. It’s baffling and quite ridiculous to see such a policy in place where paying customers are turned away simply because they aren’t spending enough. It seems counterintuitive and definitely left us with a bad impression. This kind of treatment is unacceptable and certainly not what we expected.

My friend and I visited Bar Morena today, and it turned out to be one of the worst service experiences I’ve encountered. A grumpy older man—who I assume was the owner—was walking around the outdoor patio area, treating customers with blatant disrespect. He was raising his voice at patrons, making offensive gestures, and generally showing no regard for customer service.

When I politely asked for another beer, he responded with the well-known Italian “vaffanculo” gesture instead of offering any form of courtesy. Such behavior is entirely unacceptable in the hospitality industry.

To make matters worse, the pricing was excessive—two beers cost €20, which is hard to justify given the hostile treatment and lack of professionalism.

Overall, the experience was uncomfortable, overpriced, and unwelcoming. I would strongly advise avoiding Bar Morena if you value respectful and...

We had such a wonderful experience at bar Morena in Portofino! The staff was absolutely fantastic—friendly, welcoming, and full of good humor. They not only served us with a smile but also took the time to chat and joke with us, which made us feel right at home.

At one point, several bees started hovering around, and since I’m allergic, I felt uneasy. One of the waiters immediately noticed my concern and kindly stayed by our table for over 20 minutes, keeping the bees away and making sure I felt safe. That kind of attentiveness and care is truly rare, and I really appreciated it.

The food was very good, and the drinks were equally enjoyable, but what really stood out was the incredible staff. Their warmth and thoughtfulness turned a simple meal into a memorable experience.

Would definitely recommend it—and would happily...
