“Racist Owner and Worst Experience” 1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2013 NEW

My family travels the world every year for our family vacation and NEVER have we been so insulted and treated so badly. We had a family of seven and were seated and ordered our food several customers came way after us and were greeted kindly by the two Chinese women and got their food before us. When the third group of people got their food we started asking for ours and they kept saying "it's coming". Well it took 50 minutes to get most of the food and mine (chicken & broccoli) never came so I told them to cancel it and ate some from my girls. The two women laughed and continued on their way. There was another couple of East Indian descent that also was not served and left annoyed. Our observance is that if you were not white you were treated differently. When I paid the bill I asked the Owner (female Asian)if she knew what the word "prejudice" meant she looked at me and smiled and said ''YES". It is a shame that after reading the reviews below that the nothing has been done because Mandarin Chinese has been around for a long time and this blatant racism continues. Well I am an attorney and I will continue to make calls and do what I can to shut this lady and her restaurant down. What a travesty to have this restaurant in a nice area. We have never experience this anywhere in the world or in United States and my three daughters were really taken back by this occurrence. Price was not an issue here as we have ate in more expensive restaurants but just the way we were treated. I would like to hear comments from other vacationers who had similar experiences so I can start a campaign to close this place down. I come from a very large diverse family that includes African Americans, White, Spanish, Italian and even Asian. The reason I include this is because this is not about one ethnic group but just one mean female Chinese owner. The Thomas Family - Connecticut, USA...

10 stars!!! To say that the food was excellent is an understatement. The food was beyond delicious and my family is so so picky. My kids tried dishes they would never try at home because the food has such amazing flavor.

Before choosing this restaurant my husband and I probably read every review in town (literally). We decided to try this restaurant and we are so happy we did.

Not only was the food phenomenal but the service was exceptional. The owner/manager was so kind to my children. He gave a very personalized touch. The waitress even taught my kids to use chopsticks the right way which made kids so happy.

Also, the restaurant is super clean. The ambiance was very authentic. Last but not least there was amazing air conditioning. Rome can be so hot in the summer. The manger even brought out an extra fan without us asking. I can’t emphasize.e enough how fantastic the service was.

I encourage you make reservations because we barely got in and a few people were turned away. This place is about quality not quantity! You could tell they did not want to overstuff the place just to make a buck. They want to make great food and not have people waiting for their food. You must just try this restaurant you will not regret it. Oh and the price of the food was extremely...

I wasn't impressed. I ordered the spring rolls €4 and Kimchi Beef €18. The waitress sort of said, is that all, do you not want rice with the beef, and really suggested I would need it, so I ordered some steamed rice for €3. She asked about drinks and looked crestfallen when I asked for a glass of water. Well a beer would be €8 and it was already late, nearly 10pm, and I didn't want to hang about. Service was fast, I'll grant it that. The spring rolls arrived quickly, but it just came with a standard set of 3 sauces to choose from, no sweet chilli sauce, which I prefer, only hot chilli, soy or sweet and sour. Before I had half finished that, they brought out the rice and Kimchi Beef. The beef was overcooked and dry, despite lying in liquid sauce. It had probably been plated up hours ago and had suffered the consequences of being continuously hot since then. And there was no need for the rice, it came with I think Vermicelli noodles, so that was enough. The beef dish was very spicy to my taste, which I also wasn't expecting, it had a whole clove of garlic clove in and something else not very edible. I asked for a jug of water and was told they can't provide that because they need to boil all the water in the building, but they did give me a 2nd glass of presumably...

**3.5 Stars** Change of Pace It’s a tale as old as time: tourists in Italy The al dente pasta isn’t quite what you expect or as easy to consume constantly with your unrefined American palette Or you’re Asian and you underestimate the challenge of going days straight with pizza and pasta Mandarin Chow isn’t a particularly stellar Chinese restaurant but it’s a welcome reprieve if you’ve had your fill of gluten and carbs and are craving something warming for the colder nights The interior is spacious and is filled with an selection of locals but also many tourists looking for that aforementioned change of pace The menu is a mix of traditional Chinese dishes with soups, noodles, and fried rice well represented and no particularly region focused on A few Taiwanese items listed are a gem (braised meat rice and fried chicken) and that’s what we honed on as well as the soups sold by the bowl (when you’re desperate, you’re willing to pay the price of entry) We left happy, satiated, and went back twice! 📷 Vermicelli Noodle Soup €5 / Hot and Sour Soup €5 / Taiwanese Meat Ball Soup €5 / Beef Soup Noodles €13 / Braised Pork Rice €10 / Fried Black Pepper and Salt Chicken €14 / Sticky Rice Ball with Black Sesame €6 📍Mandarin Chow (Rome, Italy)

I'm giving this place three stars for the amazing Chinese dude who served us. not the owner, not the manager, but the staff. he was the only waiter that night serving the entire restaurant while his manager (an Italian dude) just chit chatted with only other Italians (even the Americans and British folk were ignored), and even the Asian guy at the cashier's till didn't step in to help that poor dude out. Food took over 1 hour to be served... and each dish was about 10-15 minutes apart. it was THAT SLOW. but we waited because apparently, everyone was raving about the food, which in the end was just the same as typical Chinese cooking. nothing that special. the other Chinese restaurants down the street probably served more authentic Chinese food, at a lower price. so yea, only 3 stars and it all goes to that waiter... and the warm food on a cold night.

Authentic Chinese food. Nice and cosy environment. Break from pasta and pizza. But for those who doesn't know what to order, ask the Chinese staff for recommendation. Being a Chinese from Hong Kong living in Europe visiting Italy for 2months, I totally miss dishes from home. This is one of the rare authentic and fine Chinese cuisine I found so far in Italy. Good for a quiet break when visiting Villa Borghese. Tips: order Chinese jasmine tea in pot. Then get 1-2 appetisers such as 生煎包 (fried stuffed buns with pork )and dumplings or hot and spicy soup. They do them better than many places in China and HK. Then have 1-2 main dishes with rice or "pasta" like Chinese noodles 干炒牛河 in the photo. You can also order some vegetables or seafood if you feel like eating more!
