Opinion of an Italian. This bar is probably successful only because of its proximity to Rome's Central Train Station, which is one of the busiest in the country. I often travel from Formia (my hometown two hours south of Rome) to Switzerland, and a stop in Roma Termini is required. Due to this, I have visited Caffè Trombetta on several occasions. Here're are my thoughts in a nutshell: the bar is always wildly overcrowded. the quality of the food and drinks is quite bad. coffee is undrinkable. the staff has be quite impolite on several occasions.
If you want more details of why I think this, feel free to continue reading about my most recent experience.
On the 2nd of January, I asked for two fresh orange juices and two "pizzette" at the counter. Generally, a "pizzetta" is a smaller pizza which is commonly consumed for breakfast or mid-morning snack in Italy, feel free to look it up. When I paid 15 euros I though they had gone out of their minds with prices, but upon closer examination I saw that I was charged for 2 "mattonelle ripiene" which apparently are a type of sandwiches. When confronting the woman at the counter, she told me that they call the item I wanted "pizzette rosse" rather than just "pizzette" and therefore she charged me for the "mattonelle ripiene" which come for twice the price. Now, even if you do not speak Italian, stop for a moment and think about it. Does it make sense to you? And worse, she refused to reimburse me, while keeping saying that it was my mistake.
If they felt cocky enough to do that to a local, imagine what they must do to much less aware tourists, which they receive plenty of given...
Read moreI have never been to this café, but I am leaving this review because I want to send my thanks to a staff member here. It was early in the morning on September 24th last week when I was helped by a man near Termini station. He told me his name twice, but I couldn’t remember it. I only recall that when we said goodbye in front of the café, he mentioned that he worked here. I came back to the café the next day to look for him and thank him, but unfortunately, I couldn’t meet him again. I would like to express my gratitude to him as written below:
"Sorry that I couldn’t remember your name even though you told me twice, because that morning I was truly terrified. I am really very grateful to you for helping me that morning.
I have been to Rome three times, everything was wonderful and also very safe. That morning, I had a very early appointment, which is why I went out so early and encountered such an incident. Luckily, you were there that day. You were so kind, thoughtful, and gentle with me. I felt reassured and much less afraid with you by my side. Even when I got home, I was still very scared whenever I thought about it, and I sincerely thank you so much.
Today, I will be leaving Rome. I wish I could thank you once more now that I have calmed down. That is why I wrote this letter, hoping you will read it.
I wish you happiness and joy always. May God bless you – a truly wonderful and kind person.
Thank...
Read moreI went to caffe yesterday (20.09.2025) and the first impression was really nice but I compared the eat-in side and take-away prices and I was shocked that the majority of positions in the eat-inside menu we're almost 2x higher than take-away. To be honest the waiter told us that prices are different when we decided to sit inside the caffe but we have not expected that the prices different so explicitly higher. When we decided to pay it occurred that there is no possiblity to pay with card, and that they only accept cash. In this situation I needed to find an ATM to get cash. I went to two ATM and none of them was working. So I came back to the caffe and I told them that is no way to get the money. Suddenly they said that the terminal had a problem with connectivity and to my surprise they said that they will try if it works - despite not even mentioning a word before. It turned out that I colud pay with card... I was able to notice that the blonde waitress got the card terminal from under the counter with a dissatisfied expression ( how convenient that the clients couldn't even see it). The blonde waitress was really unpleasant and unkind - in opposition to the waiter that initially served us. I didn't even hear a simple sorry for this situation. This day the weather was really hot and I had to run around place to find working ATM... Food was ok but nothing special - especially...
