I canât believe this place has a 4.6. So many of the reviews in Rome make no sense.
We went here because we wanted to grab a quick gelato before bed. We didnât want to wait in the line for Fridgidarium since it was too long and we had been before (itâs very good).
I thought this place would be decent. We had tons of gelato across Italy in many different places without issue. It was always good.
Figured it be the same for a place in the center of Rome and so close to another very popular gelateria.
Boy was I wrong.
We got a chocolate and Tiramisu cup. Both of them tasted horrible. Not fresh, almost frozen, weird texture, and they both tasted very very salty. It was very weird and immediately off putting.
The owner who served us, seemed to be in a catatonic state. Somewhere between life and death.
I went back in to get some napkins and the owner started screaming and yelling because he thought I took too many napkins. Never had this happen before in my entire life. It was only a handful of napkins since my pregnant fiancée had a bit of a runny nose.
No wonder this place is almost always empty, especially compared to its more successful neighbor.
Maybe the owner should focus on making their gelato less salty instead of caring about how many napkins someone wants to take.
We had to throw out their horrible gelato almost immediately after...
Read moreIn 3 days we went 3 times here. An unassuming place with basic decor, the gelato (and probably everything else) is made by the wife (all onsite) and charmingly sold by the husband. You may be tempted by the more slick and fancy looking store not far away but if you want the real deal then come here instead.
When in Europe we eat gelato 2 or 3 times every day with Dark chocolate being our favourite flavour so the fact that we came here 3 times says a lot but also we brought extra people with us on the 2nd time and also bought a take home pack - we loved it that much. We tried a range of flavours and I was really surprised by how yummy the mandarin was. My only request is for natural yoghurt.
Portion sizes are generous as well. I can't remember prices but whatever it is we were happy to pay. See you again next year Jared and Liz...
Read moreThis is THE gelateria to spend Euros and calories on! I wandered in after standing in a long line just across the street at a gelateria recommended by a local in the neighborhood: Frigidarium.
I got the same two flavors at Chegelato that I'd had just before, and I was surprised that I liked them both better. The cioccolato fondente had a more intense burst of cacao and had a slight grain to the creaminess that tasted like ground cocoa, which some may not like, but I found the texture a new delight. The caffe tasted more of espresso, which is exactly how I want my coffee gelato to taste: not bitter at all but robust, creamy, and sweet.
For complete transparency, I am the person who submitted this establishment to Google after determining that the previous business occupying this address no...
