⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Authentic Roman flavors in the heart of Rione Monti
Dar Bruttone is the kind of hidden gem you don’t expect but won’t forget. A small, no-frills spot tucked away in the elegant Rione Monti neighborhood, just a short walk from the Imperial Forums, where the real star is authentic Roman cuisine.
The setup is simple: you order, pay, and pick up your food at the counter. No table service here — but that’s exactly what gives the place its unique charm. The atmosphere is casual and communal, with one long shared table where you eat elbow-to-elbow with fellow diners. It’s a true Roman experience.
The food? Flavorful, hearty, and 100% traditional. Cacio e pepe, amatriciana, carbonara, local meat dishes — every bite is full of rich, genuine taste.
Perfect for anyone looking for a real, no-nonsense Roman meal with character. A must-try if you want a taste of the city’s soul, just minutes from its...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem. Very small, with a large communal dining table on one side and a counter on the other. The carbonara was excellent, as advertised, and we loved the meatballs and the artichokes. For the two of us, that was plenty of food, but another dish makes sense for two hungry people. Prices were extremely reasonable, service friendly and helpful, and the food came out quickly. We were in and out in about 40 minutes, which was perfect for our first night in Rome fighting jet lag and after a long day. For those English speakers seeking something other than a touristy experience in this area, the majority of customers while we were there spoke Italian, though the staff were happy to accommodate us in English and provided a translated menu.
We highly recommend it! And you can see the Colosseum from the street walking in--it is...
Read moreFood was mediocre at best. Carbonara wasn't too bad but lasagna and artichoke dishes weren't good. The restaurant does not have table service, you order at the counter and they will call your number to come pick it up. At some point it felt ridiculous since there were a total of 3 couples in the restaurant and while looking at you in the eyes they expected you to cime pick up instead of bringing it over. On the other hand they do come pick up empty plates so the concept is very awkward. They charge 2.5€ for a 500ml bottle of water which is also too much as often you get a litre bottle for that price. The sitting is also uncomfortable, you have to share a bug table or sit with your face to the wall. Prices for the food are not expensive but also you can find similar prices in a proper places with better quality and...
