My family and I managed to find this place by looking at a website that had this place listed as one of the very best gelato places in Rome so, as a result, we found that a visit here would be necessary for a trip to Rome. It took us a while to walk to this location and we were very hot and quite tired when we arrived only to find that they were only able to accept cash rather than cards. This may not be a problem for other people as right outside the shop there is an ATM which unfortunately did not actually work for us. In the end, we ended up walking even further to go and get some cash. When we arrived back at the shop we eventually got some gelato and we were able to sit down in the air conditioned shop that had a very small bar style seating area with about 5 or 6 chairs. The pistachio was amazing but they also had some odd flavours like pine tree that was adventurous, I guess you could say, but overall overly tangy and almost tart when they gave me a small spoonful to try out. The staff were polite and friendly so we did receive good service at this gelato place. I would recommend a visit here although I admit that this place may have seemed better than it actually was from my perspective as we had to work a lot to...
Read moreBest gelato I’ve had in Rome. (Actually it’s the best anywhere. Better than the places in Venice, Firenze, and even the good gelato places in London.) I used to live in Rome and I now vacation here regularly. You name a gelato place in the area of Campo de Fiori, Piazza Navona, and Trevi fountain and I’ve tried their gelato. Yes there are 3 locations but it’s all made on site, I’ve even met Gunther! Every flavor I’ve had is better than any of the others with the same flavor. It’s exceptional gelato. I really like the Chocolato Extra Fondente but all the chocolates are good so pick your favorite type. Even the agave chocolate it really good. And yes, most of the Italians I know (one of whom turned me onto it when it was Punto Gelato) agree it’s the best in Rome. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s Italian Gelato. (Hey Gunther, I think you should have stuck with the name Punto Gelato.) There is also a location by Ponte Sisto. A great place at sunset for Gelato. Enjoy! (Whipped cream on top is free too - if...
Read moreGood gelato place to visit especially if you are visiting Pantheon as it’s quite close to it! Lots of options available, and it’s good taste too.
However giving only 4/5 as staff is very reluctant to give a taste of the flavours. It was our first time at Gunther and we were unaware of their flavours and was difficult to make a decision. There were 4 of us they only allowed to taste 4 flavours before we made a decision. I appreciate that it could be difficult when they have a huge queue or lots of tourists who aren’t actually going to buy anything, however when we visited we were the only ones in the shop and clearly said we would buy ice cream for each of us. That kind of spoiled the experience to be honest.
Overall good taste but not the best gelato in Rome for sure. Also the portions are smaller than in many...
