A Local Gem in Trastevere. An Unplanned Stop, Unforgettable Breakfast!
We originally had our sights set on a different breakfast spot, but stumbled upon Il Fornaretto di Trastevere by chance and we’re so glad we did. Thinking we were settling for something simpler to save time, it ended up being a memorable breakfast experiencing like a local in Rome.
As we stepped inside, we were greeted by the sight of fresh Italian bread laid out like—ciabatta, focaccia, grossing, lariano, azimo, and other traditional Italian loaves, with options to customize with tomato, cheese, and various types of Italian ham carved right in front of you. Everything is sold by weight, which makes it easy to try just what you want.
Then we noticed the pastries and drinks on the next section and couldn’t resist ordering more options. We got a hot chocolate- nice thick and not too sweet, cream and coffee - refreshing and not sweet, and a cappuccino—all of which were exceptional. They use Marzialli coffee beans, which are beautifully aromatic and rich in flavor.
The real star among the breakfast pastries for me was the chocolate-filled bread—absolutely unforgettable. Soft, warm, and just the right amount of indulgent. The cornetto was decent, though not my favorite—it comes down to personal taste and same as the mont blanc which was too sweet for my palette. But overall, what really stood out was the quality of ingredients. The bread here might just be better than many of the more “famous” bakeries in town. You can tell that’s their specialty.
From what I observed, this is a place where locals come regularly, which is always a great sign. It’s not overly touristy, and that adds to its charm.
The staff were all very friendly, welcoming, and patient as we decided on our order. There are so many options, it’s the kind of place you’d want to return to just to try more. Prices are also very reasonable, especially considering the quality and freshness of everything. Thank you to the Il...
Read moreWe had breakfast/brunch here about 4 times as it was located around the corner from our Airbnb.
The coffee is excellent and always made perfectly. They also have soya milk which was good as I'm lactose intolerant.
The choice of pizzas is great as well as croissants and other lovely food items. The rice balls were delicious!
Some of the staff were not overly friendly but that might have been because she didn't speak English very well but otherwise I would recommend it for the...
