L'altra Guancia — Restaurant in Rome

Chose this restaurant based on the high rating on both Google reviews and trip advisor. Very disappointed.

They knew in advance this was a birthday dinner and we expected it to be special. It was but not in a good way. We arrived 10 minutes early of our reservation and were told no insides tables. It was very cold so we insisted an inside table. So they gave us one in the back. ????

The pasta appetizer was fantastic. But my mother asked for pino griso and I white wine. Both pours were from the same bottle with the server telling her they only had one type of white wine.

The service was horrible. The bathroom had no paper. After 2 1/2 hours no one asked how dinner was. Do we need anything else? Or would you like dessert. We followed a large party that was also fed up to the front to pay since neither of us received a bill. And they could care less when we told them we were unhappy.

Many great restaurants in Rome. This is certainly not...

DELICIOUS food (and we are PICKY), this was 40 mins from our hotel, but we made the trip two times just to come here again for dinner because of how good it was. They home make their own gnocchi and some pastas too (highly recommend) - I am pregnant and lactose free and they were very accomodating and flexible with the menu too! (I got the octopus pasta, changed to gnocchi and eliminated the dairy) and it was STILL amazing!

The waiter was super friendly and remembered us from the first night we came, he also recommended a homemade gelato place down the road which was AMAZING too (Manny's Gelato).

Overall, it was really hard finding good food in Rome in our opinion, so it was a God-send when we stumbled across this place!

Go here every night, you won’t be disappointed. Price was also decent, so...

Giant ravioli were very good.

The veal cheek with pumpkin and mushroom was bad though, steer clear - pick a different kind of veal cheek dish - they have like six. The veal was literally melt in your mouth but the combo with pumpkin and mushroom is just bad - its presentation is ugly, smell is weird and the whole thing is a big wet mess.

Lamb ribs were good but its broccoli side was poor again.

The beans “soup” with pasta was great.

The salad side dish was pathetic - they MUST change it in the future. Every supermarket has a MUCH better prepackaged mix for like 1 euro.

Ox tail looked good and people praised it.

Tiramisu also scored high.

Service was good, ambiance is great - lower lights and quiet music.

Despite some misses - a great place that’s easy...
