Im having doubts about the people that wrote a bad review of La Caravella in Rome. This place is phenomenal! My 1st time to Italy, this place was recommended by my son's Godparents. This is not a typical tourist trap. If you want authentic Italian, this is the place. As an American, I never knew what real Italian food was supposed to taste like, until 3 weeks ago. The food! Holy cow, WE ATE HERE 4 DAYS IN A ROW, lunch and dinner: because Why go anywhere else? The best carbonara I've ever had in my life, and it wasn't slathered with sauce like it is in the states! The veal scallopini, and veal Milanese....perfection. The zuppa di Pesci (fish stew) was out of this world. I was expecting a bowl with broth, instead received a grand plated bowl with a slue of seafood and the best tasting broth. Cooked to order! Yes the food takes time to come out, but QUALITY TAKES TIME. and it's worth the wait and experience. Even the simple veggie soup was incredible. The porcini mushroom pizza was so good! The strawberry panna cotta was unbelievable as well as the canoli! I could keep going on and on! the salsiccia (sausage) pizza! The icing on the cake, was the customer service! Oh they made us feel like family! We miss them so much! Ryanny, Lucia, Zunzino and Pritti are wonderful human beings! We cant wait to go back next year. We've already recommended La Caravella to friends that are traveling to Rome tomorrow, and some that will be there in June! Dont let the bad reviews mislead you! This place is worth trying! Il Cibo e Perfetto! Bravo! Grazie mille, di tua...
Read moreWalking distance from the Vatican, Ristorante Trattoria is an authentic Italian gem among tourist pandering, price hiking restaurants.
We had appetizers, primis and secondis (both entrees essentially), and they all came out in order and in a reasonable timeframe. Bruschetta was so good I didn't get a chance to take a picture before we devoured it; artichoke carpaccio was fresh and light on the palate, with gently cooked artichoke showcasing the flavors of fall.
For Primis we had the gnocchi, which was incredibly soft and pillowy, without being chewy. The carbonara was silky and prepared in the traditional way, without cream; the fettuccine with porchini mushrooms was surprisingly spicy on the palate, and the noodles were perfectly al dente.
Secondis were also perfectly cooked. When we get a chance to come back down from Northern Italy with family, this place is on the list with the 5 star restaurants we're excited to return to.
Disclaimers: Visiting during the off season definitely colored our view regarding service times as everything was relatively empty at this time (Nov2024) but great food is great food, and Italians take their time when eating.
Seating fee is 3 Euro/person as is normal for Italy, to cover the costs of the bread, tablecloth, silverware, etc. Still way cheaper than tipping in the US, and you know that they actually pay their wait staffs a...
Read moreHorrid staff with delusions of grandeur! Stop in here because wanted to eat inside and out of the scorching heat. Bad choice.Staff was rude from the beginning. Food was disgusting and inedible. I was seated at a table in the back of the restaurant, next to the bathrooms, and it took them ten minutes to clean off the two plates that were on the table. When I asked a question about a menu item, the waiter wrote it down and put the order in. Then a second waiter came an took my order, even after I told him the other waiter took it. Anyway, the food I asked a question about arrived. I said I didn't ordered it, I only asked a question about it. The waiter got mad and snatched the food back and said something rude on the way out. When what I ordered from the second waiter arrived, it looked like vomit, and smelt worse. I didn't eat it. When the staff came to clear the plates, I told them I didn't like the food. Oh, that made them mad. On my way out, the waiter pointed to an empty plate he'd just cleared and said another guest had the same food and loved it and that I didn't have taste buds. Very rude.
Bright side - A large group was heading in as I was heading out and heard the conversation. When the host tried to get them to come inside the restaurant, the group lead said "No thank you, we're gonna try the restaurant across the street. They...
