Last night in Italy, Rome presently. And the exquisite dinning experience at La Pentolaccia.
The Pino Grigio wine paired with the seafood, the salmon tartar with cream of avocado, antipasto. and then the first course, fetechini in a butter herb sauce, with added fresh from this region portobello mushrooms. Second course filet of beef with fresh sliced truffles and a side of fried potatoes with fresh rosemary.
The steak is just the perfect medium, it's beautiful and the texture is perfect. A good bite yet is still so tender. The flavor is perfect.
I know, I forgot tar tar means raw. Lol. But I tried it anyway and it was perfect (aside that I have a texture issue with raw meat). They made the dish perfectly. Hardly any fishyness. The texture was sold yet so soft being the most perfect salmon.
This steak on the other hand is exquisite. True to the beef flavor, even the addition of the truffles adds to the flavor.
I am amazed at the deep flavor of the truffles but they do not take away from the steak, yet compliment.
The waiter by the way speaks impeccable English and is happy to answer all of my questions and offers to do so freely!
Going back to the steak. We raise the cows for the best beef on the Flint Hills of Kansas, though sadly only two restaurants that I have visited have prepared this to perfection in Wichita. Here in Rome, the cheff has prepared the grill beef to perfection. Just the right amount of cooked and pink raw, I didn't even have to request. It was simply prepared this way.
For dessert the cream brulee. The sugar crust perfectly burned but cracks perfectly. The cream also perfection, creamy elegance.
And something unexpected, limoncello. Made by the restaurant. Just enough sweet and lemon flavor. And yes you can purchase a bottle! Hopefully this makes the flight home that I can share this...
Read moreI hate having to post such a bad review but the service here was horrendous. We were coaxed in off the streets from a charismatic man who promised to treat us well. Once he ushered us inside-that was it. We were treated like anyone off the streets and especially badly because they assumed because we were young that we didn’t have money to spend. Big mistake. Every dinner we’ve been to in 2 weeks of our Italian honeymoon, we spent a LOT of money on: we get an appetizer, main meals, lots of nice expensive wine and always always leave a tip for great service even though it is not expected in Europe.
First off, every couple older than us in the restaurant were offered a free glass of prosecco but because we are a newlywed young couple, no one offered anything gratis for us. One of the older waiters was insanely rude and the reason for the 1-Star review. When we asked for the check, he put the dessert menu in front of us and then was nasty and asking us why we didn’t order dessert.
Then when he finally finished huffing and puffing, he put the check down and said “Tip not included” because he knew we were Americans and tried to guilt us into tipping even though the service was horrendous. He also claimed they deserved a tip because they didn’t charge a service fee...except there was a 3 euro service charge on the receipt.
I’ve never been treated so poorly in a restaurant before. We had spent the day walking over 27K steps all over Rome so I guess my saucony running shoes led them to believe I would be cheap but it couldn’t be less true. We have spent a ton on fancy dinners this trip and this was the worst treatment.
Food was good but I can’t in good faith give a review when I nearly left in years after such poor treatment. Shame on this restaurant and poor assumptions of young people and their...
Read moreTreat yourself to a lovely night of food and friendly service. Just visited this restaurant and I would highly recommend it. We received such a warm welcome from our waiter Maninder that we knew we had chosen the right place for dinner. All of the staff were very friendly, great attention to detail and efficient. We were able to ask about menu items, wine recommendations and felt very relaxed. There is a lovely atmosphere about the whole place. We sat inside which was air conditioned, table cloths white and spotless, glasses clean and squeaky. Food did not disappoint either. I had melt in the mouth tender beef carpaccio with pecorino, delicious, and my hubby had the octopus salad. It was beautiful, fresh with olives, celery, potato and a lovely fresh dressing. Main courses again were fantastic. I went for the carbonara, when in Rome! It was delicious, bacon was crispy and salty and the whole dish was so well balanced. My husband had the steak with porcini mushrooms and a side of roast potatoes with rosemary, also a winner. Affagato coffee and a lemon cello to finish. Thank you to all the staff but in particular Maninder with his perfect English, his great humour, always attentive but never intrusive, you made our night. Just sorry it’s our last night in...
