I’m not exaggerating—this might have been the worst culinary experience of my life.
My family (a group of 7) ended up at this location after trying to eat at the original Mimi e Coco. We were told it would be an hour wait, but the hostess mentioned they had a new location about 10 minutes away. We were excited to try the restaurant after seeing it on TikTok and Instagram, and we assumed Mimi e Coco Roma would be just as good. We were very wrong.
While the original spot had a cozy, authentic Italian vibe, this new location was loud and bright, completely lacking charm. After walking all that way, we were starving and tired, so we decided to give it a shot—what a mistake.
The ambiance at Mimi e Coco Roma was awful. It was so loud we could barely have a conversation at the table. American pop music was blasting at full volume, forcing us to shout to hear one another. The service was also poor. Our server was inattentive, and we had to wave him down just to get basic things. When he finally took our order, he rushed us and made us feel like we were bothering him.
The food was even worse. I ordered the Tolpette Cacio e Pepe—advertised with a big sign outside the restaurant—thinking it would be a safe pick. I was wrong. It was so salty and overwhelmingly peppery that it was almost inedible. I normally enjoy strong flavors, but this was another level. I can’t imagine anyone actually enjoying that dish. My wife and a couple of others in our group ordered the same thing and were also disappointed. I always finish my plate when eating out, but I couldn’t with this one.
The overall value was poor. Dishes were priced around 15–20 euros, which wouldn’t be bad if the food and experience were worth it—but they weren’t.
The only slightly positive note is that the other guests seemed to be having fun, so maybe this place just wasn’t a good fit for us. We felt trapped because the hostess at the original location called ahead and made arrangements for our group of seven.
Unfortunately, it was a bad experience. We’re sad we wasted one of our dinners in Rome here. I’m really not trying to be harsh with a one-star review—usually, it takes a lot for me to go that low—but everything went wrong: the food, the service, and the ambiance. Mimi e Coco Roma felt like a complete tourist trap. I’d strongly recommend...
Read moreMy nine-year-old son and I went to Mimì e Cocò twice during our week in Rome and were both given a very friendly welcome on both occasions.
The second time, our waiter Roland recognised us immediately and greeted us with a handshake. The restaurant is comfortably furnished, very clean and has an authentic and somehow modern feel to it. The food was great on both evenings. I can highly recommend the polpette, the cacio e pepe and the lasagne, but I'm sure that almost everything on the menu is excellent.
We felt very welcome and will definitely recommend the restaurant and now know where we can go in Rome anytime. I particularly liked the fact that Roland was able to give me the feeling of being in a restaurant where you often like to go, even on the first evening. You usually only get that feeling in your favourite restaurant.
I also particularly liked the fact that my son was also treated very kindly and felt so comfortable there that it was his express wish to go there a second time. Unfortunately, in many restaurants, parents with children tend to be treated as an afterthought because couples or smaller groups generate more revenue. I never had that feeling at Mimì e Cocò.
I hope the restaurant continues to receive the recognition it deserves, but if the service is always so friendly and the food always so good, I have no doubt it will. In any case, we would like to thank you for two...
Read moreVisited Mimi e Coco in Rome with Leo, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. We started with the melon and prosciutto, which was perfectly balanced—fresh, sweet, and savory all at once. For our mains, we had the spaghetti and meatballs and the ravioli, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The pasta was clearly handmade and cooked just right, with rich, flavorful sauces that made each bite memorable.
The service really stood out too—friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. It felt like the kind of place that truly cares about its guests and takes pride in both its food and hospitality.
Highly recommend stopping by Mimi e Coco if you’re in Rome. Great food, great vibe, and a great night...
