Buckle in folks — this is going to be a roller coaster of a review. TLDR: decent food, good service, decent ambiance; weird reservation system. We decided to try out this restaurant on our last day in Rome. It’s highly recommended on social media as a second option if you don’t want to wait two hours for another restaurant around the corner. When I looked it up to check out the menu, I noticed they take reservations, and I was shocked to see that there were slots available at every time of the night, on a Friday… so I made a reservation for 8pm. The bus we took got stuck so I went online and modified the reservation for 9pm instead. When we got there there was a HUGE line. Luckily we walked up right behind someone who said they had a reservation so we knew that we were supposed to identify ourselves. I told the host we had a reservation and showed them the confirmation email and got seated immediately. They told me that it was good we had a reservation cause the people in line had been waiting HOURS. I looked online and there were still slots at every time. We were seated at a random two-top obviously created for us in the very centre of the upstairs room. Watching the flips around us during our meal, it was easy to figure out: this restaurant will take an unlimited number of “reservations” and there goal is to rush people in and out as quickly as humanly possible. Our server was very attentive and helpful, odd for Rome. We started with a beer (it was huge!) and an aperol spritz. Both were good. We had the bruschetta appetizer — nothing to write home about. We also had the lasagne and a pasta, paired with a 1/2L of red wine. All good. Finally we had the cheesecake which was too notch, next part of the meal. The bathrooms were an absolute disaster. Toilet paper and urine were all over the women’s room. These need to be attended to more consistently. This is not really a must-try, but it is good for a quick bite and an interesting experience.

La Canonica: A Must-Visit Restaurant in Trastevere La Canonica is a restaurant located in the heart of Trastevere, one of Rome's most charming neighborhoods. The restaurant is housed in a former church, which gives it a unique and atmospheric setting. The menu features traditional Roman cuisine, which is prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Food: The food at La Canonica is simply outstanding. We started with the fried artichokes, which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. For our main course, we had the pasta alla gricia, which was rich and flavorful. And for dessert, we had the tiramisu, which was light and creamy. **Service:** The service at La Canonica is also excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they are always happy to make recommendations. **Overall:** La Canonica is a truly special restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is unforgettable. If you are looking for a truly memorable dining experience in Rome, La Canonica is a must-visit. **Specific details:** Here are some specific details about the food and service at La Canonica: * **Food:** The fried artichokes were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The pasta alla gricia was made with fresh guanciale, which gave it a rich and flavorful taste. The tiramisu was light and creamy, with a perfect balance of coffee and chocolate flavors. * **Service:** The staff was very friendly and attentive. They were always happy to answer questions about the menu and make recommendations. They also made sure that we had everything we needed during our meal. Mimo is a top Man! Thank you! **Conclusion:** La Canonica is a truly exceptional restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is unforgettable. If you are looking for a truly memorable dining experience in Rome, La Canonica is a must-visit.

Rarely post reviews nowadays but had to share my experience here: For starters, when approaching the restaurant I could barely tell who worked there, the servers/hostess outside were all wearing different clothing and did not look a part at all. We ordered a pizza (Capricciosa I believe), and it arrived whole, without being sliced at all (something completely new to me, but who knows maybe it is a thing) and with no plates, just the single plate with the pizza on it (also completely new to me, but maybe it is also a thing), so I sliced it all around, and we server ourselves directly from the plate. As it wasn't summer yet, and it was a bit chili outside, we asked to get the heater besides us turned one. With some struggle, our server got it running, but after a couple of minutes on the fire died, but gas kept running, and so I eventually noticed the gas smell and immediately flagged down the closest server/hostess, and he came over and shut off the gas, and while he was doing so, the gentleman seated behind us also mentioned he had started to small the gas leakage, and pointed out that he was smoking, which could have potentially have caused some trouble (not sure of the likelihood of a lit cigarette igniting gas but who knows). The guy that shut off the gas asked (almost insisted) if we wanted it back on again because apparently the guy who turned it on didn't know what he was doing, to which was an easy not for me. We continued to eat our pizza, which was pretty decent, but couldn't help but notice who the servers/hostess who stayed out front were not professionals at all. Not only their apparel was inconsistent (as I mentioned at the beginning, some were wearing hoodies and such), a handful of them were just hanging out there in a manner that one would easily assume these were friends just hanging out and not server/hostesses on duty. I do hope that management sees this review and take it seriously, because for it to be running as it is (perhaps I went there on a "bad" day) it likely needs an outsider to point out something could be improved. (Took a photo of the pizza after I realized I had to write a review)

Worst food we had in Rome during our 4 day visit. I ordered the cannelloni: The experience was more like eating a thick soup, since the pasta was the softest I've ever eaten. The taste was also not very good. It also looked horrible (sadly forgot to take a picture), I would not be surprised if it turned out to be a ready-made meal heated up in the microwave and dumped on my plate with a ton of Parmesan dumped on top. My companion ordered the Pizza Capricciosa: the pizza was mushy and the toppings tasted like they were bought cheaply at the discounter. Also did not look good. When telling our server our feedback, he did not once apologize (it's of course not his fault that we had bad food, but in my opinion, apologizing is good etiquette). He went silent and just waited for us to pay, which felt quite uncomfortable. The price was average, but of course for this food way too much ;) Instead of eating here, just look for a smaller restaurant - you'll probably have a better experience there. I added a picture of the receipt as proof, just to make sure :) PS: The coke and the water tasted great!

We spent three days in Rome, and on our first day, we wanted to dine at this restaurant. However, there was a massive line with many people waiting. The staff informed us that we could eat but would have to wait a few minutes, which we didn’t want to do given the long line. On the second day, we decided to give it another try since it was extremely hot, and they had cooling elements on the terrace. With temperatures reaching 37°C, this was a very welcome relief. We ordered an Aperol Spritz, which was incredibly well made—probably the best we had during our entire trip to Italy. The service was quick, and the staff was very friendly. I had the ‘Super Lasagna’ pizza, while my girlfriend had the Capricciosa. The pizzas were flavorful with a nice thin crust. However, the crust was a bit soggy, which made it difficult to eat with our hands as the toppings tended to fall off. I prefer a crunchy pizza crust, but overall, the meal was still very enjoyable!

Me and my partners family had a late lunch opposite La Canonica today. While we were seated at the opposite restaurant we witnessed 2 full table of 18+ boys cat call and applaud every girl/woman who walked by. Later on the Man who was the concierge for la Canonica came out and started applauding with the boys and joined in this disgusting misogynist behaviour, this man who worked for La Canonica then later came out with a piece of large paper which he had written “10” as a score for the attractiveness of the women walking by and processed to shove it any female presenting person face who passed by and was applauded by the group of boys. It was pretty horrible to watch while enjoying our lunch at the opposite restaurant and petty gross to see one of the higher up works engage in such behaviour. This behaviour was also something they were doing very loudly and visibly which would suggest this is a regular and acceptable occurrence at this restaurant.
