Loved this place. Trudging along the street with suitcases, I needed a lunch break and a chair to rest my tired feet. I’m picky about restaurants but Fagianetto had a “legit” feel to it. And the awning advertising noted that it’s been around since 1920, so it’s outlived me by good measure. Two waiters greeted me heartily but not in that fake, “come on and let us take your money” manner. While one waiter stored my suitcases out of the way, I used the restroom. On my way there, a man seated at a rear table (the owner? manager?) caught my eye and cheerfully greeted me in Italian. On my return to my table (I opted to sit inside on this warm day in May), one of the waiters (in part English/Italian) proposed the daily pasta special: asparagus and sausage. The asparagus was finely chopped. The dish was delicious, and unusual. But first I was treated to bruschetta made from delicious bread and soaked in gorgeous olive oil and loaded with garlicky chopped tomatoes. Bruschetta is usually done so poorly in the US that I’ve pretty much given up even attempting to eat this dish. Not worth the calories. But here? Good grief. It was heaven. Authentic. Other diners streamed in and, based on the sing-song greeting that met them, most seemed to be regulars. I was liking this place more and more. I’ll be back, encouraged by the service, modest prices and high quality of the food. I can’t wait to...
Read moreI am just without words, because you look at this restaurant and you think ok so what's so special here. I will give you a hint, on the wall there is a picture of the last gladiator 😃 and he was the first that met us, found us a table and asked if we prefered something to drink, yes red wine. Next he said then I am sure it is supposed to be a bit sweet because I would guess that is what is what your wife prefer. Bulls eye. Then another waiter comes and the same enthusiasm great advices, for a perfect evening. I asked about the picture of the last gladiator, and the waiter proudly told me this is the boss that you met and we call him super Mario, he has nine kids and are our great boss. I have dined at many resturants but this was special, in the end I asked to pay with card. I also asked if I could add some extra as tip, that was not possible, but was assured I should not worry about it. To show my appreciation I went back to the hotel picked up cash and went back, because these guys need to be a...
Read moreThis is the first place my wife and i ate while we had our vacation, actually honeymoon, in rome. It is also the last place we ate since the food was good, price was fair and it just felt special to eat here. I told this story to mario and crew, they surprised us with two shots of alcohol, very tasty but strong, as well as two deserts, all free of charge. If we ever make it back to rome we will visit again. Thank you very much, super mario! You are the only Yankee i am a fan of! By the way, be wary of comments who say people are outside trying to pull people in. This is not that restaurant. So many restaurants are so close people get them confused, just so you are aware. All across rome, not just this location. I know that makes it tough but,...
