We spent 35 days travelling from Athens to Miami, then home. The two meals we ate here were absolute highlights. You never know what particular memory is going to stay with you when you plan a longer trip. It turns out: Luciano and Ristorante Pizzeria Navona Notte.
We were wandering, trying to avoid the hawkers trying to talk us into their restaurants in the vicinity of Piazza Navona. Luciano was indeed such a front man, standing on the street engaging with passersby, but with a difference. The whole interaction was so low-key and fun that we actually stopped for a genuine look. The tasting menu was intriguing. We've had ACE at sushi places but this was a first. We peeked in and tried to make eye contact with diners, and we got a wink and the go-ahead from two, so we gave it a try.
Luciano was our host and he is the most personable front man for a restaurant whom we have ever met. He was entertaining, engaging, accommodating and took the time to walk us through the tasting menu, advising us how to get the most out of the experience. We felt like family.
Quite a few of the food items were really great. Others were more than satisfying but you'd miss the point of what I'm trying to say if that's your primary focus. The house wine, red, was... well, a house wine. But served as it was in a half carafe and flowing as it did, coupled with the homey environment, personal service and all of the little tasting plates... it transported my wife and me to the night we fell in love in East Boston while at graduate school 35 years ago. I can't thank you enough for that.
Thank you very much for this experience, to the cooks, staff and especially Luciano. We hesitated a bit to go back a few nights later because going back sometimes spoils the experience, but we successfully dined again with a friend who had since joined us in Rome. But I'll tell you what: the one thing we're certain to do, the place we're certain to return to in future trips to Rome, is Ristorante Pizzeria Navona Notte....

Read moreWe had two pizzas, a fried artichoke, and a couple of drinks. The two pizzas were amazing! They were not too salty, and were seasoned perfectly. The dough was thin, crispy and soft at the same time, and they were decently sized! The fried artichoke was really nice, it was fried perfectly, being crispy on the outside and soft inside. The prices were also very affordable and well worth the money!
To top it off, the staff was the most welcoming and friendly staff we have come across over the three weeks we have been in Italy. They were just lovely and really added to our experience here. They really made us feel at home in their restaurant. They even offered us complimentary shots of limoncello after our meal!
The atmosphere felt very warm and cosy, especially on a cold rainy night like tonight.
If you are visiting Rome, I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant! If I have the chance, I would definitely come back for another meal!
This was one of the best experiences we have had so far in Rome. Needless to say, our plates were sparkly...
