A real tourist trap. Avoid at all costs.
We were roped in by a charismatic waiter, who was on the street in front of the venue, ushering people in.
A positive - the view was great.
We noticed how grimy the table cloths were upon being seated. After waiting 20 minutes to be served, we contemplated leaving. I wish we had.
We ordered a lasagne and spaghetti Bolognese for first course. The Spaghetti was OK, nothing special - 5/10. The lasagne was easily the worst I have eaten in Italy. It was covered in cheese, had little flavour, pasta or meat. 2/10.
We were offered drinks once in 45 minutes. Needless to say, we had one.
We ordered mushroom risotto and based on the waiters recommendation, the veal saltimbocca for second course. After a decent wait, the wrong dish came out for the risotto. The saltimbocca could be the foulest looking dish that has ever been put in front of me. This looked like tinned “meat” sitting in a bowl of river water. I did not think it could taste worse than it looked, but it did - 0/10. How this could be served to anyone is beyond me.
I advised the waiter not to worry about correcting the risotto as my meal was inedible, and we would be leaving.
Upon entering the restaurant to pay our bill I was abused by one of the other waiters who alleged just because we didn’t like the food doesn’t mean we should not pay and accused me of just looking for a free meal. One, I did pay. Two, this was hardly a meal.
I must say that none of the food hitting other customers tables looked appealing either.
I wish I had read the reviews for this restaurant before sitting down. I can understand why it is rated so poorly. Overall, a terrible...
Read moreI wish I read the reviews about this restaurant before I sat down for dinner last night! I am originally from Italy, lived here for 18 years then moved to Aussie land. This is the worst Italian meal I have ever had! My husband and I arrived from Florence pretty late last night and tired. We were so hungry that we could have literally eaten anything! Very disappointed when I ended up getting pizza take away after our dinner here last night! We ordered a Bruschetta for entree and the bread was stale. I ordered Pasta Cacio and Pepe for main. My pasta was a ball of glued uncooked pasta with some sort of cheap cheese and with no pepper!! My husband ordered an Amatriciana wich came with 3 pieces of meat in total but at least was cooked fine. I ate the bread as I was starving and left all my pasta there after having tried it and I politely passed my feedback to the manager who did not really care and did not offer any discount or anything such as limoncello or something to apologise. He was overall pretty rude through out the whole 30 min we were there. No smile, rushed us to order our food by keeping coming to our table when we were clearly not ready. I was telling the waiter who served us lunch today at a lovely restaurant near the Pantehon that we had a terrible meal at Castel sant angelo last night and fun fact he enquired if it was a restaurant near the corner with an Asian Manager (last night the manager was Asian the restaurant was in the corner) The place must be well known for his bad reputation around Rome. Please do...
Read moreNot usually one to stop at obvious tourist traps for lunch, however, it was a very hot day and we needed some respite from the 35+ degree heat.
The staff were nice enough with quite quick service. This restaurant has a great view of the castle if you sit on the terrace where we were.
The food was okay. I had pizza and my partner had pasta, near the end of the pasta, we realised there was a small hair in the pasta underneath the noodles which did not come from us. We didn’t mention it though as we had almost finished the food.
Two things I didn’t like about this place were that the staff seemed to allow guys coming to the tables trying to sell stuff/give “gifts” in exchange for money etc. This is super annoying and the staff should chase them away. I heard a Canadian lady behind us falling for this when a guy put down some wooden crafts on the table and tried to get 10€ from her. The guy turned quite demanding pestering her for more money when she only had a couple of euros change. One staff eventually told him to go away.
The second thing I didn’t like was that when it came to paying with card, we were asked verbally if we were adding a tip or not. I think this is quite bad manners. I heard an American guy being asked the same behind us and he scolded the waiter saying it was pretty rude. However, he clearly didn’t pay mind to this as he asked us the same, to which the answer was “no.”
Ok for a quick lunch, but probably...
