I don't often complain about restaurants or food but I feel like I have to post this as this one kind of spoiled our last day in Rome. We got drawn to the place but its nice location by the river and excellent reviews. The drinks we wanted weren't available which can happen - not a reason for us to get mad. We also noticed a group of about 50 kids had sat down right when we ordered, so we expected a little delay as there were enough clients already plus all the kids. We weren't stressed. My mum's pasta arrived, and half an hour later - the pasta was long gone even though she ate slowly - our pizzas still hadn't arrived. Asking the waiters, we were told that it was difficult to keep up while serving 50 kids pizzas. We understand that - but we had ordered ages ago, one of us (we were 3) had entirely finished her meal and weren't given a heads up at least. Almost 45 mins afrer the pasta, the pizzas arrived. My Ortolana was not even properly baked - that's not a question of taste, but the dough was literally as white as a wall. The second pizza was also not as we had expected - might have been our mistake expecting something else so I'm not going to bring this up. Asking for them to be a little more baked, we were granted our wish but could see the waiters mocking us. By the time we finally got the pizzas, we were quite wound up and couldn't enjoy them anymore. They ended up bringing us Limoncello and deducting 5 Euros from the total bill, which didn't really help our frustration anymore.
Really too bad - I feel like we could have had a much better experience there. The atmosphere is nice down by the river, the pasta was actually not bad but the entire situation really...
Read moreOh wow, hands down the worst place we’ve eaten in Rome. We were genuinely excited to try this restaurant by the Tiber: the location looked nice, the stars on Google were decent… But wow, were we misled.
Only after our meal did we scroll through the recent reviews and realize we weren’t alone: the high average rating seems to rest entirely on old reviews that no longer reflect the reality.
To start, the staff barely understood our order and brought the wrong drinks, fine, that can happen, but it was the general level of disorganization and carelessness that really shocked us. There were literal cafeteria trays lying around the middle of the restaurant (!), missing cutlery (our son had to go get his own), and the service staff seemed more interested in watching the nearby live concert than actually doing their job.
Now… the pizzas. Let’s not even call them pizzas. These were pre-cooked, almost cold slabs of dough, topped with three sad leaves of arugula, a few shavings of parmesan, and some Parma ham tossed on top. Absolutely no soul, no taste, and certainly no love.
Huge disappointment: this place might look charming at first glance, but don’t be fooled. Look at the recent reviews, and you’ll see we’re not the only ones saying it. Definitely...
Read moreAfter stumbling over this place and having a look at the reviews, we were very surprised at how bad the experience here was.
Our female waiter was very attentive and checked back our orders.
The male waiter who brought our dishes had little idea about which pasta he just brought, insisted that Pasta Matrigialla was Pasta Carbonara despite obviously lacking the bacon and had problems understanding English and Italian.
The Pasta Carbonara tasted like storebought sauce, the only ingredient you could taste in the Matrigialla sauce was pumpkin.
The pizza we ordered disappointed, too. The dough was not only unexpectedly thin but also crisp and very dry. Selling that as pizza seems like an insult - rather, it’d be a dehydrated, oversized tortilla.
Lastly, the Pollo al Limone con patate was excessively oily and did not taste like lemon.
The only thing speaking for this place for lunch is the river nearby.
Do not eat here if you expect good Italian food. The place a few steps away also blasts loud club music the...
