We spent two nights in Rome and asked for recommendations from the hotel staff for an authentic Italian place to eat and to my surprise, this was not one of their recommendations. We checked out the recommendations and were not pleased with the ambience so we decided to keep walking. Seeing a lady walk her dog, she definitely looked like a local so we decided to ask her. “what’s the best place to eat here in Rome?” She recommended this place and said whenever she goes out for a night that’s this is her place of choice! She said if we are looking for authentic Italian food this is the place to go. We were so fortunate to have met her Because we had an amazing meal. The ambience, the owner/manager was so personable, so friendly and went out of her way to make sure that we enjoyed every moment of our meal., We could tell that we were the only tourists in a jam packed restaurant on a Monday night! Reservations highly recommended as we were lucky that they were able to squeeze us in right at 7:30 PM. We walked into the door and were instantly greeted with a glass of their house Prosecco. They then proceeded to provide us right at the door with a fork and napkin -a freshly made cheese puff of some sort. We knew before even sitting down that we were going to have a fantastic evening. At the end of the night, she walked around with a chocolate covered orange small chocolate that they clearly make on site and all of that was complementary. I had a great evening. We would recommend this place to anyone and everyone who comes to visit Rome. You will not be...
Read moreFirst thing first: this great trattoria is open on Mondays! It deserves five stars just for this. I have to start this review from the ending of the visit as a chocolate lover: This restaurant won my heart with their gesture to offer huge pieces of chocolate with amazingly tasty orange pieces in it after a super delicious meal. I tried it four times, lunch and dinners and it never failed me. Great ambiance and ideal also for romantic dates. It is a family business dating back to 1924, and shows it has a touch of lady with the class it carries. The elegant owner visits each table and checks out if everything is fine and if her guests are happy. Service is very friendly. It is one of the unique trattorias in Rome in the sense that there are windows not hidden by dark curtains and it lets the day light or the street lights at night come in. I could never understand the logic behind creating totally closed in boxes as eating places in Rome as day and night you enter dark rooms for lunch or dinner in this city. Coming back to essence, the food is also very good. Pasta with vongole and botarga (small mussels topped with shaven fish egg) is to die for. Make sure you reserve for dinner. My compliments to the owners also for keeping it open on Mondays as most restaurants remain closed on that day in Rome. it has a separate elegant room which can be booked for special events. It is located a few hundred meters away from Piazza Cavour, a nice sort of business and residential area with good...
Read moreThere are meals that satisfy hunger, and then there are meals that etch themselves into your memory…Trattoria della Barchetta dal 1924 offered the latter in every bite.
From the moment I sat down, I knew I was in for something special. The aroma of simmering sauces drifted through the air like an invitation from history itself. This is a place where time slows down, and every dish feels like a love letter to Roman tradition.
Yes…I ordered more than one pasta dish. And yes…I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Each plate was a revelation, but the carbonara deserves its own standing ovation: creamy, perfectly balanced, kissed with just the right amount of pecorino and guanciale. It wasn’t just pasta. It was symphonic.
But the true, soul-shaking showstopper came in the form of their tiramisù…a performance in itself. At the table, I watched as rich, dark espresso was poured over delicate ladyfingers, followed by a cloud of fresh cream gently spread on top, and finally a snowfall of fine cacao to finish. It was the kind of dessert that makes everything else in life go quiet. Sweet, bitter, airy, decadent…unforgettable.
I’ve tried to recreate it. I’ve searched for anything remotely close. But nothing comes close to what Barchetta delivered. I left that trattoria with only one desire: to return to Rome just to relive this singular, transcendent dining experience.
If you’re anywhere near this place…go. Go hungry. Go ready to...
