Visited this Gelateria 09-09-2021, shop appeared clean, tidy and well in order ... gentleman who served us was efficient but dull and unwelcoming. I opted for a €4 tub of mango and strawberry, pretty small for the price.
Only reaching as far as round the corner before realising the ice cream had an off-tasting, soured flavour to both the mango and strawberry ice creams, we returned to the shop where my partner presented the problem to the assistant (My Italian is pretty poor, whereas it's my girlfriend's native language)....
The attendants attitude changed entirely (from what he said, we took the assumption this shop was either owned, or at least managed by this man). It seemed now he had our money, he was much less interested in the customer experience; he became defensive, rude and very cheeky to my partner from the second she set foot back in the shop.
We were told it could ONLY be our taste buds that were off, it was our personal opinion and because he made this ice cream every day we didn't know what we were talking about. He refused to try it to prove our theory, there was no offer of a return, exchange and, in fact, he would not even take the tub from my partner to bin it. His tone was wholely unacceptable.
We both had upset stomachs for the following few hours and we're both burping a sour, disgusting taste for a period of time too. I think we've been unfortunate with our ice cream as it appears this is a thriving Gelateria in the centre of Rome... But as for customer experience, I'd highly recommend avoiding, to evade the possibility of leaving underwhelmed, unwell and poorly treated. There are many, MANY other options nearby. Please avoid...
Read more“Vale” in Italian means “worth” but in Spanish “Vale” means “ok” … I’m kind of inclined toward the Spanish definition of this Gelateria. The workers are friendly and speak English, and the Gelato is not pilled high in mounds behind the glass for unsuspecting tourists, but stored in traditional silver canisters that keep the gelato from getting icy crystals.
The gelato is good but not great (I got stracciatella and pistachio) and the medium cup for 4€ is really tiny. It’s two minuscule scoops that are basically a taste. I get there is inflation and rising costs, but this medium cup is what a small cup was a year ago.
Hanging here with a caffe or gelato though is a nice way to kill time while you wait for Chiesa Gesu to open in the afternoon. The room is an eclectic space filled with some pictures on the floor and mismatched tables. A chandelier is intertwined with criss crossing hanging bulbs and there are air balloons suspended from the ceiling. Kinda like hanging around grandmas attic.
I don’t like to disparage businesses, so I must say Vale offerers service in an area without many bars or restaurants so it’s much...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in here tonight for a quick treat before supper 😀. It was on my list of visits to try out gelato - so glad I made it here. We came in at night, and the colors of the store really caught our attention - very clean and extremely well presented. The young man working behind the counter was very nice and was quick to serve us and suggested we have a seat in their small back of store eating area. Very interesting choice of decor throughout the store. We shared a chocolate gelato and coffee gelato in a cup - delicious and very creamy. The two were a great mix. Really good music playing as well. Highly...
