Please DO NOT GO HERE. It’s an expensive scam.

Do yourself a favour and find any other pizza place. We were on our way to Alice (across the road) which we’d visited previously and I would recommend, but thought we’d try somewhere different because the prices on the board were reasonable.

We asked for two types of pizza and were told that they weren’t available anymore, despite the labels still being on display. The server was unhappy when we asked what was on one of the pizzas.

We were charged €15.50 for two slices, when we were expecting to pay a third of that. The server smirked and spoke to their colleague in Italian, and it was obvious something was amiss. They also “heated” the two slices and they were still cold.

I also saw one worker, with their gloved hand, reach into their trousers and adjust their underwear. The same worker, in the same gloves, also walked past us with a cigarette in hand moments later and placed it under the counter where the pizza is displayed. They then proceeded to begin serving customers without a change of gloves or wash of hands.

Additionally, there was only one toilet with no lock or toilet paper, and it wasn’t clean either. EDIT (following the establishment's reply): I have uploaded a screenshot of the receipt with the date and how much was spent and proof we ate there. Turns out I was wrong: it wasn't €15.50, it was €15.90! Even worse. Other reviewers have already uploaded photos of the menu board which is on display in the restaurant advertising false prices, to show the disparity between what is shown and what is charged.

It is interesting to see how defensive and borderline threatening the restaurant are towards any negative reviews. I detailed EXACTLY what we saw when we ate there in terms of the staff hygiene, with no embellishment.

Additionally, I am not "promoting" another brand. I said we were on our way to a restaurant we had previously been to before and would recommend (which I stand by, and which has honest pricing), but actively decided to try somewhere else. All reviews on my profile are public, and on investigation you will see I have not even left a review for Alice.

This restaurant can threaten or flag my review as false, but we have undisputed proof of eating there. I can even draw you a floor plan from memory if you would like.

My review remains at this: Do not eat here, it is a waste of money and the quality of pizza...

Best. Pizza. Ever. Coming from New Jersey and having lived in New Haven for 20 years, I consider myself particular when it comes to pizza and was skeptical that Rome's pizza could match my favorites in the States. Bona serves hands-down the best pizza I've ever tasted. It was so good I made a special trip back two days later. The offer a wide variety of toppings, but the simpler slices were preferred. Fresh tomato sauce and roasted tomatoes, slices of mozzarella rather than shredded, and fresh basil were bright and satisfying. The dough is crunchy and holds its shape, yet still retains excellent chew. The restaurant is really a more of a walk-up eatery with limited seating. The pies are square and are prominently displayed. You place your order, the square slices are cut and then reheated in the oven before being cut into more manageable squares to eat. You can even watch the pies being made in the back through a window in the small dining area. I considered visiting Bonci pizzeria when in Rome as it had appeared on Chef's Table, but after reading reviews and enjoying Bona so much, I decided to stick with this winner. There are several locations throughout the Etrrnal City, and a visit to Bona should be included on every...

TOURIST TRAP! I went in with my father and we got a slice of pizza that cost €5.50, and 4 classic croquettes which according to the menu board should have cost €1.50. Our first mistake was speaking in english. Once receiving the receipt that said we were charged €17.... we were confused. The worker offered to explain the prices to us, where he then proceeded to tell us the board prices were 2 years old and the croquettes are now €3 (criminal pricing as is).

Little did this silly worker know whilst we don't live in Italy, we are fluent in italian due to my father being born and raised there. We had to pick up food up the street, but after this my father came back and asked a different worker in italian the cost of the classic croquettes.... and funnily enough he was told €1.50!!! After calling them out, the worker shown below (don't partake in being a criminal if you don't want to be punished) rushed over telling my father that 'his boss told him to charge that amount'. We got a refund and were hurried out of the store to prevent other people catching onto their theft.

Don't waste your money here, don't ever believe that prices are old because you can't even display incorrect prices, they...

A visit to Italy would not be complete for me, if I don't have a pizza. So found this cosy eatery, a stone's throw from where I'm staying. Ordered the Milanese aka fried eggplant mistakenly, instead of the suppli aka Italian rice balls. Thank goodness I did as I found out earlier that the suppli is much more filling. Also ordered the eggplant with parma ham and feta cheese sandwich. I particularly like how spongy the pizza dough was, even after I was swinging it around the street for an hour. Olive oil was just right. And no cream, or an overwhelming amount of pasta sauce. One piece of advise though; when they ask you if a certain amount is ok, you can ask for more, or less. Don't be shy. I ended up struggling to finish all 4 slices of pizza. They will weigh it anyway. All the food costed 17€ with a bottle of water. It could probably feed a party of 3. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Would visit again!
