I'm so sorry to have to write a negative review, but we were SO disappointed by our experience. It completely ruined our day. We came for a late lunch yesterday and were promptly seated by an extremely friendly waiter who told us that we had come and the right time, as if we had come 15 minutes earlier it would have been crazy busy, so we were coming at a time which would mean the kitchen was almost "just there for us" (words of the waiter!). We had spent a long time walking around and chose this restaurant as we loved the sound of their pasta dishes amd wanted a larger lunch rather than dinner later. I am pregnant, so get hungry xD
We ordered food and drinks and drinks came promptly. Starters were very nice, but we were most excited for our pastas, gnocchi with ox tail, and fettuccine with ragu of chicken, duck and other meats. After our starter came out, we noticed people coming for food being turned away, with statements from staff that the kitchen was now closed until 6pm. "Lucky timing for us!" we thought.
We noticed that a coulple people who were seated after us received their pasta before we had received our starter, and so were pleased to see that the portions looked very decent and the food looked lovely. The dishes ordered in fact looked like what we might have ordered ourselves! So we felt encouraged.
Time passed and we received no more food, and no one actually even came to ask if we were okay, or even if we wanted any more drinks, even though we were sitting in front of empty glasses/bottles and a dining setup. The atmosphere was weird and it felt like something was up. A waitress who had earlier brought our starter kept looking over but never came to us and seemed to go back and forth around us. Meanwhile bar snacks were coming out regularly for people who were coming for drinks, and cocktails which were the only things being served at this time. After nearly an hour we thought we had been completely forgotten or our order had been ticked off as having been served when it hadn't yet, and perhaps the kitchen was clearing down without realising we were still waiting. Eventually some completely new random waitress in black came and dumped our food in front of us. A mouthful of fettuccine (like not even joking... 4 small forkfuls- bearing in mind a couple next to us before had shared a bowl of pasta carbonara between two of them!), and luke warm gnocchi in what looked like a plain tomato sauce with no flavour. I was immediately furious and tried to calmly and in a friendly manner, get the waitress's attention but she rudely rebuffed me and walked away. I get she was probably doing something first and wanted to see to it before talking to me but it was SO rude.
Eventually she came back, and being English and not wanting to make a fuss I asked about the food because it didnt seem right. I was given a scathing answer that basically it was what we ordered. I couldn't be arsed to argue at this point because we had waited so long and knew they would defend. I knew we would be charged the full amount for this meal even though it was clearly bottom of the barrel, thrown out because they closed down the kitchen without completing our order and felt they needed to give us something after we waited so long. We saw that other tables that had pasta before us were also provided with a pot of aged cheese to sprinkle at will on their dishes. We didn't get that, and were not even offered. Even if we could have asked, no one came back to us to ask if we were okay and they seemed to be avoiding!!!! Maybe our perception, but either way, no one made themselves available for us to ask for anything further.
The thing was, if they had just said to us, we might have just said "oh don't worry we will pay for what we had and get pasta elsewhere", because it was by no means just cheap when you compare to other places all over Rome, where you can get delicious pastas for 12€, and We could have still been satisfied for our money elsewhere. But no. No communication, bad service in the end and dreadful...
