Read the great reviews on this place and decided to give it a try. We made a reservation online for 9:30pm and when we arrived our table was reserved outside which was our preference but we had to wait for a bit to get seated as the restaurant was very busy. This short wait was fine, however, once seated the waiting continued. While it was very busy we had to ask several times to get service to order anything. When we finally ordered some wine it was another long wait. They did bring some bread at some point but nothing to put on it so we requested some olive oil- again the wait continued. Had it not been so late and we so famished we would have left but figured the time already invested would pay off. Fortunately it did. The food, as reviews suggested, was excellent. We seemed to have several servers and had to ask them several times for the wine we ordered as well as the olive oil they said they would bring. It wasn’t until we met the man that took our food order that things started to settle in. Can’t recall his name but he spoke English well enough to go through the items on the menu which were written in Italian on a large chalkboard. We ordered the Salt and Pepper shrimp, a cooked but cool Mackerel dish as well as a vegetable plate and the Anchovy pasta dish- it was all very fresh and oh so delicious. We had ordered a bottle of wine from the nearby Fuore region (as “by the glass” did not seem to be an option) and it was good. We ended up ordering a second bottle as we slowly enjoyed the food and overall experience. Ended up corking most of the 2nd bottle to take back to our room. ;) If the service hadn't been lacking so much to start we would have rated this place 5 stars all the way. If you do decide to give this place a try (and we recommend you do) we suggest you try booking at an earlier time in the eve as the whole town of Salerno seems to gradually wake up and become lively (and busy) as the evening rolls on. And maybe manage expectations that the food will be worth the wait-...

MUST GO - best prawns of my life

We arrived in Salerno famished and discovered this gem just down the street from our accomodation. Located in the old area and super close to the beach in perfect pre / post beach lunch or dinner.

The wait staff were welcoming and took the time to explain the whole menu in English. Their menu changes every week so you know the dishes are going to be made with only fresh ingredients.

We ordered the salt and pepper baby prawns...ok so it was like seafood candy. My husband loves seafood but I’m not the biggest fan (prawns, calamari and white mild white fish are my life) but decided to try them! I am sooooooo happy we did. We have been in Italy for nearly 4 weeks and that might be the best dish we have had - they were seasoned incredibly well, the flesh was cooked perfectly and the shells and legs were crunchy and delicious. We even contemplated going back on the same day for dinner to just have a plate each - they were THAT GOOD!!! Must try!!!

I had the tomato prawn pasta - the pasta was cooked perfect, sauce was delicious seasoned well and generous serving of shelled baby prawns.

My husband had the anchovy pasta - the waiter (maybe the owner) explained to us the detail and commitment the chef had for this dish - 7 months of trialing to get it perfect. It wasn’t salty like most anchovy dishes. Husband loved it.

We decided to go with a rose and they had great recommendations

This place is a MUST TRY!!! The passion and attention to detail in this place in contagious! Seafood lover and non-seafood lovers (they had non-seafood vegetarian options too) will enjoy...

What a wonderful experience! I was taken here by a local friend who loves quality food. The jovial local atmosphere was laid back but the interior beautifully renovated and the food traditional but thoughtfully prepared. The swordfish fritters with orange cream sauce were excellent as was the octopus salad, the eggplant parmigiana, and the homemade pasta with frutti di mare and zucchini flowers. Carmela was gracious and because their food is so fresh they don’t print a menu so she dragged the chalkboard menu to our table. A delightful time and delicious food with a fabulous woman chef from Naples and lovely service....

We were in Salerno for 1 night and my wife had our 3 kids by herself for a time and ended up at L’Unico on a very busy Saturday evening. Lucia took care of them so wonderfully! I got stuck parking the car from our Airbnb, so I met them after. To say the meal was amazing would be an understatement. They made our children meals they loved not on the menu, we had the most amazing tuna tartare freshly caught. Their shrimp plate tasted fantastic and you could tell they take pride in their cooking and service. After a nightmare parking experience (not at all L’Unico’s fault 🤣) I was greeted with a glass of champagne. Amazing.
