Inviting atmosphere so stopped in for lunch on day trip to Siena. Off to a rocky start when we clearly ordered (pointed to it on menu and waiter acknowledged) one glass of wine. Waiter brings whole carafe. Had to clear that up with the one waiter who speaks English. Waiter brings out basket of bread which presumably is gratis, says nothing and other tables have bread baskets.
Food was good; we had one daily pasta special and one from menu. Our bill comes and we are charged for the bread X 2 (two people?) and charged for a carafe of what was most like tap water.

Read moreI am still crying outside. I went inside and told the waitress that I wanted to take away and chose a table to sit and wait. In the next few minintes, I was asked by the waitress with a poker face to stand up from several seats and at last i was forced to stand near the front door, super embarrassed and looked totally stupid. For some reason, they opened the door, one very rude customor sitting near the door used his mouth to show that i should close the door so i half closed it, but he was so unsatisfied and rude at that point...Why I deserve all this? Read moreA lovely authentic local Trattoria a few steps away from the tourist centre. The ‘piatti del giorno’ change to reflect seasonal produce (including fantastic black and white truffles). You can find here local dishes, done simply and beautifully with uncomplicated, homely service - from Salvatore - outgoing, helpful and delightfully unique. A great find if you want to avoid the more touristy venues. Even better for a regular local hangout.
