We were very excited to eat at this cute looking restaurant. The experience was a bit strange. One of us are allergic to gluten so we did not want to eat bread and pay the extra 2€ per person charge for bread that we couldn’t eat. We also asked if we could have tap water which they did not do. This was fine with us and we got some wine instead. We just didn’t want to keep using plastic bottles all the time. However it became apparent that the server took this the wrong way and gave us bad service. For all our dishes we were given tiny portion sizes. The two boar pasta dishes that we ordered in particular. When we looked at the people next to us we could see that they had more than double the portion than the server had given us. We were also charged the Coperto fee (an extra 6 €) when we had asked not to have the bread. This came across as passive aggressive ... just because we did not feel like bread and pasta. The bill for the meal was extremely high in the end for the tiny portions of food and the snarky behaviour of the server. It felt very strange. And very obvious that they had taken a dislike for us. Clearly a restaurant for wealthier older travellers that don’t like it if younger travellers on a budget want to opt out of the small unnecessary fees and who don’t want to participate in the ridiculous overconsumption of plastic bottles in Italian hospitality that contribute to destroying the planet. It’s called getting a...
Read moreAuthentic Siena charm with unforgettable flavors! Osteria da Cice is a small, cozy bistro tucked away in the charming little streets of Siena. The ambiance felt like a rustic wine cellar — cool and refreshing, especially on a hot afternoon.
We were welcomed by a polite and efficient hostess who got us settled quickly. The menu features Siena specialties, and we tried the Stracotto alla Chiantigiana (Chianti-style beef stew), Pici al vino rosso con ragù di cinta Senese (handmade pasta with red wine and cinta Senese pork sauce), and Tagliatella al ragù di Cinghiale (tagliatella with wild boar sauce).
All the pasta was perfectly al dente, and despite the rich meat sauces, nothing felt too heavy. Everything paired wonderfully with our bottle of Chianti. The beef stew was a standout — it simply melted in the mouth.
We ended with a homemade tiramisu (light, creamy, and just right!) and a cup of Orzo (barley coffee). All this for under €80, excellent value for such quality!
Highly recommended if you're looking for authentic Siena flavors in a welcoming,...
Read moreOne of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a female waiter, which I appreciated. However, things took a turn for the worse when we were seated.
We were promptly asked to order drinks, which we did. Then, we browsed the food menu, but our interest was piqued by none of the options. After a while, we were approached by another female waiter. When we expressed our lack of interest in the food and our desire to pay and leave, she went to get her manager.
The manager arrived aggressively and loudly, demanding to know why we weren’t ordering. We explained that we had no interest in eating there due to the limited food options and that we couldn’t find anything that looked appealing. He then started pointing and raising his voice, asserting that it was a restaurant and not a bar. He even claimed that he could make something we’d like, which wasn’t on the menu, which we declined.
Overall, it was a terrible experience, and the staff was not very welcoming. I hope you find a better...
