This is a fabulous restaurant that is deserving of its tremendous reputation. The food is superb and the staff are friendly and professional.
We made our first dinner reservation (reservations are essential - they book out pretty much every night) in order to try their well-reviewed Fiorentina Steak. And they did not disappoint. We ordered the smallest Fiorentina they offer (1 kg) thinking we’d take some leftovers back to our apartment for lunch the next day. But the steak was so delicious that we ate it all in one sitting! If you’re a fan of grest steak you just have to try the Fiorentina here. We had a delicious vegetable soufflé as a side, enjoyed four glasses of wine, and shared a luscious ricotta parfait with strawberry sauce for dessert.
The bill for this feast was 85€ - a great deal.
We were so enamoured of their menu that we went back for dinner the next night. Thos time we explored their menu a bit more, ordering two antipasti, two primi piatti, and two dolci.
For our antipasti we chose Pecorino fritters with pear sauce and beef tartare. Both were superb, with the sublime pear sauce worthy of special mention.
Ours primis were Pici with pork ragu and Paccheri with Tuscan bacon, onion and ewe’s cheese. Both dishes were outstanding, though our adoration of well executed pici (as this was) gave the edge to that dish. We also had a lovely side of grilled zucchini to share.
For our dolci we chose the Tiramisu, and the Pistachio Cannoli with an apricot jam for dipping. The Cannoli was delicious, but the Tiramisu was a show stopper. The luscious, silky texture of the mascarpone cream was perfectly complemented by just - small amount of sponge cake soaked in rich espresso coffee - easily one of the best Tiramisu we’ve ever had!
The entire meal - including two glasses of Chianti Riserva - was 79€, a bargain given the quality of the food...

Read moreYesterday we reserved a table at Osteria La Sosta di Violante. Everything worked out well, and although we arrived a bit earlier than planned, we were seated within 15 minutes.
We started with the eggplant puff pastry, which was well seasoned and quite delicious. For the mains, we had the eggplant pasta and the steak strips. While the steak strips were very good and well prepared, the pasta was rather disappointing – it lacked seasoning and was swimming in oil, which made it heavy and unbalanced.
To accompany the meal, we ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico, which was enjoyable and paired nicely with the food.
For dessert, we tried the cannoli and tiramisu. Unfortunately, neither lived up to expectations: the mascarpone cream was runny, lacked flavor, and didn’t taste particularly fresh. The cannoli suffered from the same issues.
A further downside was the restrooms, which were in poor condition and clearly not cleaned regularly.
Overall, the experience was underwhelming. Aside from a couple of decent dishes, the food did not justify the reputation of the place. In our opinion, you can easily find the same dishes elsewhere in Siena with far better flavor and quality. We...
