La Locanda has been the #1 place I've been dying to try since arriving in Sorrento but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE FIX YOUR HOURS ON YOUR SITE & ON GOOGLE MAPS
Monday, line out the door and said hey we'll try again tomorrow Tuesday, closed Wednesday, closed Thursday, closed Friday, saw that it was open at lunch time so we went in to make a reservation for 6PM
Walked in around 5:45PM but didn't know that they werent open yet for dinner (why? because it wasn't on their site). Thankfully they allowed us to sit at our table until opening, but that was not without a price -- ATTITUDE was served on a platter.
Like a couple micro aggression filled experiences in Sorrento restaurants this week, the waiter quite literally threw the menus on the table promptly at 6PM. Chalked it up to him being upset that we came before dinner hours.
We made excuses for the attitude, tried to be extra polite, & placed our order (which was still met with coldness -- wouldn't even look at us as we were communicating). Cherry on top was that they gave bread to EVERY table but ours until we asked another waitress.
However, when the food came out, I started taking pictures and suddenly I felt the energy changed. I don't know if they were now being accommodating because it was clear that I am someone who takes the time to write reviews/post, or maybe our waiter legitimately was in a bad mood before and we just happen to be in the crossfires (which is understandable & forgivable because we all have those days), but something changed and suddenly service was on par.
Net net, food was 5/5 and I'm glad we came -- the bruschetta with sundried tomatoes & stracciatella cheese was absolutely divine. My husband loved his gnocchi & my arribiata was exactly what I was craving.
[EDIT] Owner clarified below that their hours are normally correct, but this week was an exception due to unforeseen issues, leading to other problems they had to solve. I can 100% sympathize & understand now why the workers were overwhelmed and likely depleted. Hoping things are now running...
Read moreWorst dinner experience in my life. do NOT go there unless you ready to let the owner insult you multiple times!! This one experience has ruined my 4 weeks beautiful holiday in Italy Was looking forward to try this restaurant based on all the great reviews unfortunately My lemon sea bass has no slightest taste of lemon. Very blend taste I asked for chilli flakes to enhance the favor. But what really let us down was the service…..waiter charged us €6 for coperto in the bill for 2 people. I thought, again based on the reviews, this is a family run down to earth restaurant but it is no different from other tourist trap. I then politely asked him about the €6 coperto on the bill & also provide me credit card recipe, he reluctantly throw me back €3 coins not apologetic more like brushing me off & said there was no receipt, i refused to leave without the receipt as I was not sure how much he actually charged on the card then the other waiter came to assist & sent me the receipt by email. The whole experience was unpleasant & unnecessary. What even unacceptable was the Owner sent me a very rude & disrespectful message next day asked me to “go eat fish & chip & pizza” and go back to my country. She can’t accept a fair comment on the fish & behaves like a 3 years old! How unprofessional being in service industry. She then said I lied about my bill. Anyway there are many nice restaurants in sorrento with great service. Don’t waste your...
Read moreWe visited La Locanda del Gusto last week, hoping for a great dinner in Sorrento. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy, staff are friendly and welcoming, which made us feel good right away. It’s one of those places that looks cute, clean and with charm so we were excited. Service was good, the waiters polite, the place not too noisy inside.
But for the food I’m afraid it was a pretty average experience. The menu looks promising, but what we got was just… mediocre. Some of the pasta was overcooked, sauce bland, and the flavors seemed underwhelming. I had high hopes for the gnocchi and the ravioli (because many reviewers rave about them) but ours were soggy and lacked seasoning. The meat dish I ordered was okay but nothing special. Dessert the tiramisu was also disappointing, it didnt have much of the coffee or cream taste I expected, texture was kinda mushy.
We were hoping to get something memorable, but instead got something you’d forget by next day. That said the service almost saved the evening, staff tried hard, refilling water, checking on us. The ambience is good, lighting warm, tables well spaced, clean cutlery and plates. Price isn’t super cheap, which makes the food being just average a bit more annoying.
Would I go back? Maybe if I had nothing better available, for the atmosphere and service, yes. But for food only, I wouldn’t choose this again over other places in Sorrento. Three...
