After coming back from siracusa, I would say that the competition is high in the catering industry. It is really difficult to find a bad restaurant in siracusa, and the restaurants all provide similar style of local food. Therefore, it is important to make a restaurant different, so that people can remember. I think Francisco succeeds in making his restaurant impresive. The atmospere is good and friendly, the people speak good Engilish. Francisco introduced himself at first and then the food together with the catch of the day. Althogh the flavor of the food is not impressive to be honest (I agree it is challenging to be impressive...), the quality of raw materials is very good and were cooked properly. I will recommend this restaurant to anybody who will visit siracusa.
In addition, I had sea food risotto every day in different restaurants (one or two times per day) during my three-day travel in Silicy, and the one I got in Trattoria La Pigna is the...
Read moreAtmosphere: Almost perfect dining experience but for 2 things. We can walked in on an August evening without reservation and were accommodated by the owner/maitre de. This is a small family owned and run restaurant. Husband manages the front and wife is the chef.
Food: This restaurant serves FRESH seafood if that’s what you’re craving for in Ortigia. We ordered the mixed appetizer and it was amazing. 10/10! For main course, we had vegetarian pasta (not on the menu) and whole Red Snapper prepared Sicilian style (steamed w capers, olives and tomatoes). This dish was 8/10 only because the fish was not properly descaled. Taste and presentation were great.
Service: 8/10 Our server wasn’t attentive beyond dropping off the food. The owner came once to check on us after the appetizer was served. I had to get up and ask for some salt and pepper.
Price: Bit on the high side. €48 for the whole snapper. Our total tab with 3 dishes, water and a glass of of...
Read moreThe service was very nice and friendly! Francesco, the owner was one who spoke English and he did the great job talking to all english speaking guests and and taking their orders. The atmosphere was very pleasant as well -nice and clean place, with good space between tables. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was very average, not better than from the grocery store, and not what we had expected from so highly rated place. I feel sorry for those who think that this is the “best food in Siracusa”… sorry but it is not. Additionally, the portions are on the small side. For 3 people having the appetizer “a sample plate for sharing” that supposed to be enough for 2-3 people, 2 pasta dishes, plus one fish entree, and 2 desserts were hardly enough. The bottle of the Sicilian white wine...
