Le Barettine — Restaurant in Trieste

We found this very authentic local restaurant. One page menu, specialized in sea food. It’s one of those small places that puts their heart and soul into the restaurant. They had a special local mussel (mussoli) on the menu, which was slightly more chewy than black mussels but it was such a fun experience to taste something new. I hate touristy places and I am always looking for the unique & authentic gastronomic experiences. This definitely hit the spot! I had the sea bass for main course which was delicious and perfectly cooked. The gnocchi was incredible, I would say one of the best home made gnocchi I ever tasted. No explanation can be given for how delicious our meal was here. We started with the scallops and porcini mushrooms, which were served in the shell. The mushrooms create the most amazing sauce with butter. The scallops were cleaned well and cooked perfectly. I then had the gnocchi with prawns and truffles. Posto caratteristico, rustico, molto pulito e che trasmette calore. Personale molto educato, gentile e tranquillo. Cibo di ottima qualita, sapori non coperti da condimenti come eccesso di spezie, sale ecc. Abbiamo preso antipasto di sarde in savor, granseola, capesante gratinate: tutto superlativo. Poi strozzapreti in un sugo rosso con calamari buonissimi, chicche di patate (gnocchi) in un delicato sugo rosso con ombrina e olive nere e questo era davvero spettacolare. Il tutto annaffiato con del glera sfuso secco molto buono, pane ottimo e acqua frizzante. Abbiamo terminato questa splendida e tranquilla serata con caffe (buono e... siamo triestini quindi il caffè DEVE essere buono) e un tortino al cioccolato con un cuore morbido e una salsa al Baileys. Speso una cifra onesta / bassa considerato il calibro del servizio e dei prodotti. Una meravigliosa sorpresa. Per me non è assolutamente una pecca, ma per onor di correttezza lo segnalo: se siete di fretta potreste risentirvi perchè ci vuole un po' di pazienza, ma in fin dei conti noi eravamo lì per passare una bella serata mentre loro erano al lavoro quindi, ripeto, non è un commento con accezione negativa....
