Upon arrival we were greeted very warmly and despite arriving early, our room was ready. Drinks and snacks were offered to both us and our friends, who happened to be in Venice. An excellent first impression! The room was comfortable and clean with a lovely bathroom and jacuzzi bath. It was cleaned regularly and had everything you'd expect to find in a good hotel. We were lucky enough to be on the first floor so we even had wifi reception in our room, which was an unexpected bonus. However, even if this had not been the case, the lounge area, where wifi is available, was spacious and usually deserted, meaning internet access would not have been a problem. The wifi was a good speed. The location of the hotel was perfect - not too far from where our bus dropped us off (a 10 minute walk) and right next to a waterboat stop on the Grand Canal. There was also a supermarket and plenty of cafes and restaurants within a 2 minute walk. It was also away from the crowds, which was excellent and made for a peaceful night's sleep! The breakfast was excellent with a wonderful choice of food (savoury and sweet, hot and cold, cereals, cakes, croissants, cold meats, cheeses, eggs, bacon, various types of bread, jam, etc.) and good quality coffee. it was self-service, meaning you could sample whatever you wanted. It also meant you could fill up enough so lunch wasn't an issue! Finally, the staff were brilliant - from the very first moment to our departure. They were warm and welcoming and were always ready to help (we left our key card in the room - but they immediately sorted out the problem - maybe 2 key cards per room would be a good idea?). They were happy to give advice on how to get around Venice and we were able to leave our luggage once we'd checked out. (Our flight was in the evening.) When we returned to pick up our luggage, we were offered a drink and were even asked if we needed to use the toilet and/or to freshen up. Overall, an...
Read moreWe were here for 1 night before our cruise and the location was perfectly located for our arrival by train and out departure by cruise ship. It was about a 10 minute walk to/from both the station and the port. There is barely a sign out in the front though (which is the case with most places in Venice) so it would be easy to walk right past it, but if you have a clear map, or google maps on your phone, you should be fine. We challenged ourselves to use an old fashioned map and our compass and managed just fine. Getting lost in Venice is part of the experience anyway! The staff was very friendly and accommodating and also spoke very good English. The breakfast spread was amble, fresh and delicious. More than enough options and a cute little breakfast room on the 1st floor (which in America would be considered the 2nd floor) complete with an outdoor courtyard if you prefer to eat outside. If you want a delicious restaurant for dinner, go out the front door, turn right, right and then left, left and then over a small bridge...you will end up in a little square with a supermarket, a church and a few cafes. We chose the cafe with the red awnings and everything was delicious and reasonably priced! We were lucky enough to witness a festival going on that evening as well and listen to the music and watch the dancing. Perfect ambiance! It was also fun to walk through the fresh market in the morning which was not too far away, on the way to the Rialto Bridge. Walking to St Marks square took about 15-20 minutes (if you didn't make any wrong turns) but was an easy walk and fun to look at all the shops and cafes along the way. I recommend heading there before sunset, and then enjoying the orchestras in the square over a glass of wine, an Aperol spritz and/or some gelato. Whatever you do, there is no city like Venice and I cannot...
Read moreI would rate this place fair. Only because its so far away from the centre. Lighting in room is very poor. If you open windows air con shuts down. So windows closed for Air con. Lift is only to the 2nd floor, so if yr on the 3rd floor you've got another flight to walk up, and when ur tired from walking to the centre and back isn't ideal. Room really dark..only lights at the wall bedside or a lamp, really awkward to see what yr doing. Breakfast was the same each day, pretty standard. Scrambled eggs and what seems like prosciutto fried (not bacon), cheeses, breads, hams, cakes, cereals. Fruit was the same each day it was tinned peaches and tinned prunes which I wasn't impressed with when you're visiting Italy where fruit is fresh and in abundance, so cannot justify tinned fruit same each day! You have to wait for yr coffee tea or lattes as they ask which you want and then it's taken to ur table. No coffee making facilities in the room. If you take the water they supply for you in the mini room fridge you get charged €3 euros each bottle! So we just bought a pack of bottles from the mini Coop further down for less than 2 euros. I think they need to have a more varied breakfast and fresh fruits not tinned! Better lighting in room, better lift to top floor. Oh and be careful of mosquito bites, one of us had 70 in total, the others 30 each, it was absolutely awful, they fly around yr ears at night. So we had to keep windows closed, air con on over night, which isn't ideal for your health. I wouldn't...
