Ristorante La Cantina Venezia — Restaurant in Venice

The unbelievable arrogance and poor service in this so- called retaurant was such that we didn't even stay long enough to eat. The first time we tried to eat here- based on a good recommendation, we could not get a table because it might rain said the waitress-?? Anyway, we gave it a go for lunch a couple of days later. We asked for a table. The waitress pointed her finger at us and said, in an annoyed voice, 'Momento!' A different waitress eventually told us where to sit and after a bit of a wait the original waitress returned and just stood there. I gestured for a menu; we were told we could only have fish or ham plate. We chose ham. We asked for vino bianco; she pointed, in bored fashion style, to the board ans clearly had no interest in offering assistance in choosing a nice wine. We ordered soave which came by the glass and was flat and tasteless- this wine had been opened too long and I do not believe would ever have been offered to their regular or "preffered" clientel. We had ordered water too and on its arrival had said 'gratze' but the waitress ignored us and walked off. I decided to return the wine and as I did so decided this place did not merit its recommendation, was not worthy of my time and money so we just told them we did not want to eat there. We had a remarkable experience at this restaurant when we visited Venice in March 2018 which I must share.

As any vegetarian tourist from India knows, vegetarian dishes are almost an afterthought in European menus and when we visited this place, they were no exception. The waitress (Esmeralda) helpfully showed us the one (maybe two) vegetarian dishes from the menu and we were resigned to having to choose from them when we got a message from the chef. We were told that chef Fransesco loved to make vegetarian dishes but did not get much opportunities to make those and if we were willing he would make a vegetarian meal just for or party of four. We were delighted of course and waited for 45 minutes while Fransesco was busy getting our food ready. The end result was just amazing! The food was delightful and we walked off into the night with a warm afterglow! Thank you Fransesco and Esmeralda.

By the way, dinner for four (including wine) cost is just 70 Euros which I thought was a bargain. I will post my photos a...

I just ate here randomly and the food was delicious. The bartender Roland was very friendly. I was asking about eating and then a BIG group jumped in front of me but he didn't forget me and served me first which was the right thing to do. Then got them there drinks quickly. Great attention to detail.

I ordered wine and cicheti. Then I told him I was disappointed every place I went for spaghetti neri (squid ink pasta) was booked and he said, "We have it here." I ordered it and it was delicious.

It was late and there were not many customers. Roland was very attentive to me as a customer and we chatted the whole time but he also spent the whole time cleaning. I love a clean restaurant and so does Roland.

Also my phone was dead and he helped me get it charged so I could find my bus.

I recommend. Tell him Bob from Florida sent you.

*Edit Returned today because of Roland and he suggested a delicious spaghetti alla pescatore. Lots of flavor in the sauce €16...
