I came here more than 10 years ago for the first time to try their amarone risotto. Their menu fascinated me so much that I insisted to come to Verona again only to be able to dine here again
This latest experience was again wonderful, and I can’t promote their signature dish, the amarone risotto more. Especially, if you are a risotto-fan, you have to try that (it is fully vegetarian). Make sure that you order it as quick as possible, as the preparation takes around 15-20 min
The wine options are vast and they helped us to find the best wine 😍 If you are wine-lover, and if they still have the Bussola Valpolicella from 2017, each cent you pay is worth!
My partner tried the smoked horse meat, which he loved. Also the combination of green salad & dried cod fish was very good. Ask for their grilled vegetables to get a feeling what is the seasonal options right now 😉
Parking can be a drama, make sure that you left your car already (this is the case for any place in city centre). Booking can be done via their email address, the phone number did not work when we tried. Staff is very friendly and helpful, speak perfect English + other languages. The restaurant is in a historical building and keeps their...
Read moreTaverna Stella is one of the top-rated places in Verona. I confess, after going to several highly recommended restaurants, I did not find a good meal in this town. This tavern offers fun, good service a delightful waiter, but food is just average at best. I don’t know who writes these wonderful reviews about the food. Maybe I just have different taste.
One of us had the horse appetizer which he liked. We had the Amarone risotto which was short on taste, a couple of the pasta dishes that were deemed “good.” The stuffed duck leg was pronounced dry and overcooked. The mixed salad was lettuce, tomatoes, purple cabbage and shredded carrot. You dress it yourself at the table. Could have used some onion or something to give it more character. I had the same mediocre salad at another top rated place. Overall, eating at a few of the best-rated restaurants in Verona was a pretty unimpressive experience. Next time I would buy stuff at the grocery store for sandwiches and go out for...
Read moreThe first two Primi dishes came out of the kitchen in less than 5 minutes. Suspicious. Both dishes (Gnocchi with Horse meat sauce and Bigoli with duck sauce) came out piping hot and not in a good way. Like maybe they were heated at the last instant in a microwave or salamander. But anyway, both Primi were delicious. We then ordered the special which was shrimp and scallops with polenta. The special also came out in just a few minutes. Now I was worried. Sure enough, both the shrimp and scallops were way overcooked and insipid. Definitely culinary mal practice going on in the kitchen that night. Insalata mista was good. Verdure miste good. Two different house white wines were disappointing. Very pretentious atmosphere in this place which is clearly not merited based on the kitchen's...
